Awards Day, June 7 On Tuesday, June 7, 1966, Miles Macdonell held its annual Awards Day. Chairman, Terry Edgeworth called on members of the staff to present the various awards and trophies. Many students received first year awards, the letter M , or bars signifying second year awards. Three students. Bob Harrison, Terry Edgeworth, and Juliette Schwartz were awarded cups in appreciation of three years of active participation in school activities. Five special certificates of merit were bestowed upon deserving students. Trophies were given to the winning teams from the Bowling, Curling, and Badminton Clubs. The highlight of the afternoon, however, came when the Athlete of the Year cups were presented to Bonnie Burron and Bob Harrison. Congratulations ! ! Gillespie Bonnie McNair Lillian Partyka SEATED: Heather Grant Patti Andriaschuk Heather Murray Laurel MacColl Barbara Boddis On the publicity side of things, posters (for the chocolate drive) were CREATED! as well as publicity for games and school spirit week. As for School Spirit , the committee sponsored a student-teacher basketball game and hootenanny. Then, February!. . . School Spirit Week! ! A real smash! ! Remembei the fantastic volleyball game, broomball game and especially that zany clash day ? Attire was so bright the teachers donned sun glasses. All in all, it was a great year! ! OFFICERS: Chairman: Heather Murray Vice-Chairman: Laurel MacColl Secretary: Judy Krawzuk Reach for the Top This year M. M. C. ' s Reach for the Top team consisted of Greg Kennedy, Henry Metzler, Bob Bilan, and Wendy Caswill. On Flight One of the program, the team defeated the Daniel McIntyre team, winning the right to participate in Flight Two. The team met its match in the team from Glenlawn Collegiate and was narrowly defeated, the final score being 230-210. Science Club The Science Club was able to continue this year in spite of a lack of membership. The activities of the club consisted of films, dis¬ cussions, inquiries into the subject of bio¬ electrogenesis, compiling a bibliography of science books in our library, and sponsoring projects for the Spring Fair and Kiwanis Science Fair. In the Kiwanis Fair the club won a third prize (earth and space science) and an honourable mention (biology). Next year if more interest is shown in the club a project will be started at the beginning of the year, and among other activities - a tour of the planetarium in the Arts Centre is planned.
