The Current Affairs Club has completed its second successful year at Miles Macdonell. Under the leadership of our president, Ellen Komarchuk, the club completed the following activities; presentation of a United Nations Day, (Thanks to the Student Council for purchasing a U.N. flag), a travelogue by Mrs. Zubek, preparation of an ex¬ hibit for the Spring Fair, sponsorship of a debate against River East, as well as numer¬ ous discussions on current affairs. As a finale to the year ' s activities, the Current Affairs Club presented a panel dis¬ cussion by the teachers, Mr. Best, Mr. H. Dick, Mrs. Zubek, and Mrs. Grieve, who gave their opinions of today ' s teenagers. Many thanks to our teacher sponsor, Mr. Drewe. United Nations Seminar The purpose of the United Nations Seminar is to acquaint high school students with the workings of the U.N. through lectures, films, and discussions. Maths Club This year, the Maths Club was introduced to the principles of the New Maths system and to the basic use of the abacus and slide rule. We also reviewed geometry and algebra in preparation for the Grade 12 Provincial Maths Examination, and entered an exhibit of puzzles and brain teasers in the Spring Fair. We wish to thank our club sponsor, Mrs. Zubek, and to extend heartiest congratulations to one of our members, Greg Kennedy, who came second among the more than 600 students who wrote the Provincial Maths Exam.
