VARSITY GIRLS ' BASKETBALL The girls ' Varsity Basket¬ ball season lasted from the first week of January to the end of March. All through the season, the girls lost only one game. The score on January 8, when Miles Mac played Transcona at MMC was 13-11. On January 15 Miles Mac won over Windsor Park 22-5. On January 22, MMC won again 28-20 over West Kildonan. At Garden City on the 29 MMC won 35-10. On January 31 MMC won over Nelson Mac at NM 33-11. On SEATED: Marilyn Franks, Arlene Goodman, Nicols Panchysak, Cathy Stracker, Manager, Audrey Baldoke, Shirley Dudeck, Co- Captain. STANDING: Ruth Tiede, Arlene Cartildge, Lyn Smith, Nora Verhagen, Captain; Josie Dudeck, Sharon Smith. February 12 Miles Mac beat River East 16-12. On Feb 14 Miles Mac beat Transcona 29-26. On Feb. 19, Miles Mac beat Windsor Park 24-14. On Feb. 26, Miles Mac beat West Kildonan 24-19. It had to come. On Feb. 28, Garden City just managed to beat Miles Mac 11-9. But our girls were not beaten. They slaughtered Nelson Mac on the 5th of March 26-8. The last game was a disappointment. River East played MMC on March 14 and won 21-15. Although not in scheduled games. Miles Mac beat St. Johns and Grant Park by scores of 40-29 and 14-13 respectively. Congratulations are due to our girls as they came first in the league standings and had a near perfect record of play. Marilyn Franks and Nora Verhagen were fifth and sixth in the high scoring race. Congratulations! You girls made up for the bad run of luck the boys had. SNAPS

VARSITY BOYS ' BASKETBALL SEATED: Ken Mailey, Conrad Gislason, Don Hunter, Gary Cwiak, Kim Sorenson. STANDING: Ted Chmielowiec, Vic Romanow, John Mallin, Dennis Glavin, Roger Bricky, Dave Baldwin. The regular season began on Jan. 4 at the Miles Mac Gym where the Buckeyes play¬ ed Transcona. Transcona won 41- 40 in a thrill-pack¬ ed game. The sec¬ ond league game (on Jan. 11) saw Miles Mac lose another squeaker 28-25. On Janu¬ ary 18, Miles Mac was finally success¬ ful, defeating West Kildonan 52-42. On Jan. 25 Miles Mac played Garden City at G. C. and lost again 48-34. Nelson Mac then slaughtered the Club 59-38. Again, MMC went down to defeat to Wind¬ sor Park on Feb. 8 48-41. Finally, on February 15, Miles Mac defeated River East 49-48. On Feb. 20, the club lost to Transcona 37-34. On Feb. 22 Miles Mac lost again to River East 46-44. On March 6, the team managed to win against West Kildonan Collegiate 51-40. To follow the victory up, our team won against Nelson Mac on March 8. The score was 32- 28. The final game with Miles Mac pitted against Garden City on March 15 saw Garden City win 63-41.’ A double header game was played against Provencher School. The final out-come showed Miles Mac and Provencher win a game each. Don Hunter was the high scorer with 122 points and came tenth in the league high scoring race. Congratulations Don ! Although our Varsity Buckeyes did not reach the playoffs, they played very well. Lady Luck, obviously, did not seem to shine on them this year. Nevertheless, the boys fought hard. Better luck next year!
