AWARDS DAY Miles MacDonell ' s Awards Day was held June 6 in the Miles MacDonell Auditorium. The chairman for the programme was the school president Wayne Eliuk. Frances Ross was presented the award for naming the final dance. Don Buccini of the Social Committee made the presentation. Following this, Richard Deely presented the School Spirit Awards to Chris Westdal, Julie Bergner, Murray Botterill, Conrad Gislason, and Dana Stewart. School letters were presented by Mr. H. Dick to deserving students. Wayne Eliuk then read the names of those who were worthy of recieving school crests. These students were: Errol Aspevig, Vern Barrett, Don Buccini, Christine Boomer, Lynn Carmicheal, Arlene Cartiledge, Judy Gunning, Jim Hull, Jim Horne, Dave Kemp, Edwin Kroeger, Randie Kushnier, Victor Kuzyk, Colin Laker, Dale Martin, Kerry McCombs, Stuart McLean, Karen Prevalnig, Judy Randall, Diane Ross, Cliff Schultz, Kim Sorenson, Gail Stevens, Lorna Weber, Frank Wagner, and Fran Willis. Wayne Eliuk, Chairman, then read out the names of the students who won an award for the second consecutive year. These were: Audrey Baldoke, Julie Bergner, Ted Chmielowiec, Shirley Dudeck, Richard Deely, Dennis Glavin, Don Hunter, Dick Long, Ken Mailey, Peggy McCartney, Richard Sallee, Lyn Smith, Sharon Smith, Neil Taylor, Bob Tibbs, Nora Verhagen, Linda Walker, and Joan Wilkinson. Mr. T. C. Meadows presented the above students with bars. Then, Miles Mac ' s principal, Mr. J. E. Scarrow presented the following students with cups and bars. These students had won crests and bars in the last two years and had done the most in Citizenship to help the School. The students were: Mike Dunbar, Hugh Stephens, Tom Lobay, Barb Wilkinson, Rich Titarniuk, and the School President Wayne Eliuk. Next on the programme came the presentation of the athletic Awards. Ken Mailey read the names of the students who won badminton Awards. These were: Bev Milne, Brian Staranchuk, Judy Poley, Geraldine Exchange, Bob Kozminski, Walte.r Turk, Bev MacLean, and Kim Sorenson. Mr. Saiko presented the badminton Awards. Mr. J. Bryant then presented the Prince Edward Legion Curling Cup Trophy to the Ken Mitchell Rink. Members of the winning rink were Ken Mitchell - Skip, Mr. H. Wiebe - Third, Greg Warriner - Second, and Hugh Windsor - Lead. Mr. R. J. Wilson then presented the Bowling Awards. Winners were: Brenda Bean, Bruce Sutherland, and the Kildonians, Jerry Procillo, and his winning team and Murray Botterill. Ill

Track and Field Club met three mornings a week Trom Febuahy to April. After Easter Holidays it was held daily both morning and noon. As Field Day approached, the club ' s membership increased to 40. Peggy McCartney received the Award for the Grade XI XII Volleyball Champs. She received the Award on behalf of the team from XI-28. Marilyn Harris of X-43 received the Award for the School Volleyball Champs. Gail Stevens of X-48 was presented the Award for the Grade X Bask etball Champs. Audrey Baldoke of XI-26 received the Award for the Grade XI - XII Basketball Champs. Ed Seepish and Gerry Szpak were presented the Award for the Grade X Boys ' Basketball Champs. Colin Laker, of X-3 then received the School Basketball Champs Award. Dave Muir and Gerry Szpak were presented the Grade X Boys ' Volleyball Champs Award for their winning team from X-46. Colin Laker of X-3 again paraded up to take the School Boys ' Volleyball Champs Award for his team. Mrs. Lee then presented Mr. E. Dyck the MMC Track and Field High Room scorers for his XII- 3 room. Karen Prevalnig and Jan Kohnen were presented the Award for the Inter-School Basketball Champs by Mr. Elfenbaum. The Suburban Track and Field Meet Awards were presented by Mr. J. Wilson to the Boys ' Pursuit Relay Team. This team consisted of Jim Nickarz, Tom Lobay, Rich Titarniuk, and Ken Paposh. Jim Nickarz then received the Track and Field Championship for the Boys ' Division. Mr. R. Kuran then presented medals to the following finalists in the Provincial Track and Field Meet: Shirley Dudeck, Jim Murray, Don Hunter, Colin Laker, Ron Glover, Rod Heide. Finally, the presentation of the Stryck Cups were made. Mr. Kuran presented Shirley Dudeck with the Girls ' Cup and Mr. Elfenbaum presented Ken Mailey with the Boys ' Cup. • — $g
