The Buckeyes registered their first league victory 35-31. By the end of the season the Buckeyes had won 4 games and lost 5, tying with West Kildonan for third place in the league, calling for a play-off game to determine who would go on into the semifinals. The Buckeyes made sure of this game as they salted away a 65-50 victory over the visitors. Wednesday, March 21st found the green and gold tribe playing the second place team in the first game of the semifinals. The boys suffered a discouraging defeat 59-43. The second game of the semifinals found the Buckeyes with their backs against the wall and they rallied to take this game with a 63-51 victory. The game that counted in this series took place on Saturday night. The Buckeyes made no mistake about who was going to win. They grabbed an early lead and held it throughout the game. The final score was 76-61. March 27, found the Buck¬ eyes out for the big stakes, the championship, which they played their hearts out against the Normacs in the early part of the first game. The Buckeyes had a 14 point lead but by the end of the third quarter it had dwindled to 3 points, and the fourth quarter was disasterous as the Buckeyes lost their lead and the Normacs went home with a 58-50 victory. After a very successful sea¬ son, the boys of the Varsity Bas¬ ketball team would like to thank the cheerleaders and all the loyal supporters for the moral support they gave the team. A

SPORTS COUNCIL FIRST ROW: Elaine Lowry, Vicki Scrutton, Joan Wilczynski, Judy Hales, Mavis Dixon, Shirley Dudeck, SECOND ROW: Bob Jackson, Tom Lobay, Stan Moroz, Ted Chmielowiec, Conrad Gislason, Rich Titarniuk, Edward Smith, Dave Confrey. MISSING: Lynda Foster, Les Martinson. CHEERLEADERS This year the cheerleaders received new yellow, crew-necked sweaters, thanks to the student council. We hope our cheerleading improved with the addition. Thanks to Miss Drewerys, we also had a mascot, Jasper, a grey donkey. Unfortunately, we lost his tail half-way through the basketball season. For the remainder of the year poor Jasper was a tailless donkey. This year we cheered for the Girls ' Varsity Basketball team also. We hope that this will con¬ tinue in the future. Leona Solomon, Pat Knoll, Helen Harper, Diane Blakeley, Katina Posaluko, Gayle Riddell, Diana Farbiak. CENTRE: Beverly Best.
