The Yearbook staff did a fine job and I would like to than them for their help throughout the year. I wish to extend special thanks to the friends who could always be relied upon in emergencies - who helped with the tremendous task of or¬ ganizing hundreds of students for pictures - did last minute typing during the summer holidays. The work of the typists was appreciated by the Yearbook staff, as was the help of Mr , Lee and the English teachers in preparing the Literary sectic Macadonian 1961-62 is the product of a combined and sus tained effort. SOCIAL COMMIT!EE Pat Pydee, Susan Relkie, Pat Charter, and Donna Martin. STANDING: Hugh Stephens, John Harper, Dwight Blix, and Wayne Eliuk, As the title suggests the dance was of a festive nature. It was a la, fling before Christmas exams set in Decorations were done on the Christ mas theme with red and white streat ers, and candy canes. Prizes were given to winners of spot dances, stat dances and more spot dances. Entertainment was supplied by a visit from Santa and some baton twir ing by Judy Hughes. Some of t he Dance Club members ' did an exhibition dance of t Beer Barrel Polka. FRESHIE DANCE Sept. 29, 196 The purpose of the dance was t open the social doors of Miles Mac- donell to welcome the freshies, Tr dition, of course called for an initia tion and the newcomers were put through a few paces for the senior £ dents. Naturally the freshies had ti wear all manner of queer clothing. At about ten p. m. Judge Hugh Stevens arrived to try all freshie: who were not properly dressed. Pu ishments for the crimes ranged from licking all day suckers to drin ing cokes from baby bottles. CHRISTMAS DANCE Dec. 1, 19E u- e SWEETHEART SWIRL Feb, 2, 1962 This was the most successful dance o the year. The gym was decorated with re and white streamers. A big red heart hun from the center of the gym and the walls were decorated with hearts and cupids. A approximately 10:30 all the contestants of Sweetheart queen paraded on the stage. Voted queen of them all was Beverly McCallum. Her two princesses were Linen Walker and Sandra Webster. Each contest • ant received a red rose. The queen and th princesses received gifts. The queen also received a bouquet and had the first dance with the President. LAST LUAU March 30, 1962 This was the last dance of the year. Decorations were done on the Hawaiian theme. Entertainment was supplied by the Meadowlarks. A door prize was given. There were also prizes for novelty dances. In conclusion of this social year at Miles Macdonell, we of the social committee would like to express our sincere thanks to the teaching staff who chaperoned the dances and to all those students who served on the com¬ mittees. The social committee of this year have enjoyed planning your social function and sincerely hope that you enjoyed yourself.
