To the graduating class of 1957--Congratulations. Emerson once said, Make the most of yourself for that is all there is of you. So, do your level best where you are every day of your lives. Today is the day for which you have been waiting. Twelve long years have been spent preparing for it. Yesterday and tomorrow are far away nothing--the one a faint memory, the other a vague promise, But this is your day--Graduation Day. When one door closes, another opens, but sometimes one looks so long and happily upon the closed door that he does not see the one which has opened. Opportunities are knocking at your door constantly and Iknow the Class of '57 and I also know that each and every one of you will make the most of these open doors. I sincerely hope the memories of our association will be as pleasant to you as they will be to me. Best wishes and good luck, success, and happiness all through life. No matter how high you rise, you'll always tlnd infinite distances above. Bernice Taplin Dear Seniors, As a member of the faculty, it is sometimes difficult to recall my own thoughts and feelings as a high school senior. However, if memory serves me correctly, it is a time of mixed emotions and a time of trying to look both forward, and backward at the same time. When you think back on your school days at Miles, Ihope your memory of music activities will give you pleasure and satisfaction. You should be able to sense some accomplishment in that department as in all others. Iknow it has been a pleasure for me to watch the progress and growth some of you have made during my three short years at Miles. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to work with all of you. In the future I hope that you will all find a place in your I 1 life for music, Use the tools you earned in school so that they 2 don't rust beyond repair. Try keeping them sharpened at all ftixilff 'N times, and when the opportunities come for newer and better ' 1 tools, try to be prepared to use them. To me, the most I Q satisfying thing about music is that there is always more to i learn and enjoy, Rest assured, that no matter how hard you s 5 try, you'll never exhaust the world of music. f Marlene Firman ' 1 N-r-L.,

N-'Q s X-in Ax X Seek early that field of endeavor which interests you most and you can do best: then put into it every bit of energy ambition and natural ability you possess. Remember that the successful person is usually the one that makes a habit of doing the things failures dislike to do. Above all, be cheerful and happy. Happiness and success are components seldom found separately, and you must look within yourself for each. They cannot be handed to you Be sure to keep yourself clean and bright, for you are the window through which you must see the world. Each year a group of Seniors reach the milestone of graduation This means no more than you yourself have made it. You have really just sharpened the tools with which you will now work We hope you have done the job well. These are the tools you will use from now on, to carry you through life. We have tried to guide you in all your work, and it is hoped that you have learned the one greatpurpose of life, Service to others. In order to perform this service easily and efficiently you have spent twelve years of study, most of them very happy years. Now you have reached the place where you are called upon to make your own decisions more and more. It is my hope that all your tools are sharp and in readiness for whatever task you may be called upon to perform. There is not time to hesitate. You must go forward. Choose wisely, work hard, and remember that happiness comes by untiring service for others. Congratulations now, and much happiness in the future. Doretta G.
