M11 zu To the class of 1957:- In my reading, I ran across this brief paragraph giving'7 characteristics of an emotionally mature person. I think it is very good, and deserves some thought. l'd like to pass it on to you. Emotional maturity is difficult to define exactly because no one is altogether emotionally mature all the time. But in general, the emotionally mature person has these characteris- tics: 1. He is realistic. He judges a situation as it exists, not as he wants it to be. When problems arise, he makes the best of them--instead of running away from them or fighting them. 2. He accepts frustrations and disappointments without developing uncontrollable anger or becoming sick. 3. He stands on his own two feet. 4. He cooperates with others. He is considerate of their needs and interests as well as his own, 5. He uses his abilities effectively, and takes part in activities with enthusiasm and satisfaction. 6. He has the capacity to love someone besides himself. I. He is capable of postponing present satisfactions for a future greater good. Congratulations to all of you. I have enjoyed knowing each of you, and my sincere good wishes for the future. Marilyn Beeler
