Miles Student Council 1951-52 was the beginning of a student council in Miles High School. Two representatives were selected from each class. These were Madge Wink and Cora Harmon from the freshman class, Frederick Muhl and Janice Ockelmann from the sophomore class, Bert Strahn and Joyce Hammond from the junior class and Joan Muhl and Carol Nielsen from the senior class.4 Mr. Copley presided at the first meeting. Election was held and Joann Muhl was elected president, Carol Nielsen-vice president, and Joyce Hammond- secretary-treasurer. A meeting was held each Thursday morning at 8:45. Some of the actlvltles of the council were to conduct election of cheerleaders, hold a drive for subscriptions for the Sabula Gazette, help students, plan the School Carnival, and count the 500 bushels of corn of the carnival queen. 37
