- Cotton Festival Seventh Annual Festival Draws Huge Crowd The 7th Annual Miles Cotton Festival offered a little something for everyone. Iust some of the all- day activities included the ever-popular parade, food and craft booths of all kinds, square dancing, jalapeno eating contests, a brisket cook-off, and the beautiful Queen's Contest. A street dance climaxed the day of fun. Laura Wright, a sophomore at M.H.S., was chosen as the 1983 Cotton Queen out of 40 con- testants. Also chosen Were lst runner-up Carrie Culp, 2nd runner-up Helen Schwertner, and 3rd runner-up Pam Roberts.
