- Homecoming Victory Tops Off Homecoming Activities Football sweethearts, mums, and crisp fall weather are always a part of Homecoming, and the 1983 M.H.S. Homecoming was no exception. Showing their spirit during Homecoming week, students participated in designated dress-up days. A pre-game supper and the crowning of the 1983 Football Sweetheart, Gina Schniers, climaxed the week. Football captains, Alan West, Dennis McGuire, Rocky Poehls, and Paul Kalina honored Gina with a bou- quet of red roses and the traditional kiss. One of the most exciting moments came when the Miles Bulldogs defeated the Loraine Bulldogs. After the game, a victory dance was held on the tennis courts as Homecoming Week came to a close. fm ' 'sg is Tracy Hyde leads cheers to boost spirit during the Homecoming game. Opera House Serves as Activity Center Back in 1904, Uncle Ioe Theile brought native stone from Willow Creek to shape the walls of the Miles Opera House. Once a hotel in downtown Miles, the Opera House also contained the city's post office. Eighty years later, the Opera House still offers much to area residents. No longer a hotel, it is now the official meeting place and activity center for the Senior Citizens of Miles. Purchased in September, 1976, by the M.P.A., the center provides hot meals for the elderly twice a week, along with various other activities for its members. Quilts, baked goods, crafts of all kinds and exhibits of yesteryear are ever present. Recently, an upstairs auditorium has been added to the center. All the window dressings and curtains were made by the Senior Citizens. For a step back into yesteryear with a touch of down-home friendliness, just visit the Miles Opera House!

The activities offered entertainment for all ages ranging from the Senior bingo to the toy walk sponsored by the Kindergarten. Students and parents worked in the various booths and each class sold chances on many dif- ferent prizes. As usual, many children kept up the spirit of Halloween by dressing up in costume. l l Many valuable prizes were donated by local merchants and given away at the carnival. People-young and old alike took part in the many exciting events.
