These renovations included the auditorium, and the high school-elementary wings. Con- struction of the new facilities began in May, 1982, and was completed in August of 1983. Renovations to the older buildings included central heating and cooling systems, new lighting, suspended ceil- ings, and various other energy-saving projects. The School Board and Ad- ministration of Miles ISD established the improvements of facilities as its highest priori- ty when enacting the building program. Many long hours were spent by the members of the School Board in planning and supervising this program. We feel, however, that the end product will be one factor for a better education for the young people of the Miles School District. -Mr. Mac Coppinger Superintendent --- Dedication The 1984 Senior Class of Miles High School would like to dedicate this annual in loving memory of Mr. Milburn Wright, Ir.-a friend to all. 7a ' fy 5 xx I MW., y X 5 I WHAT SGRT OF FRIEND? I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me, I'd like to be the help that you are always glad to be, I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day As you have meant, Good Friend of Mine, to me along the wayg And this is just to wish somehow that I could but repay A portion of the gladness that you've strewn along my way, And could I have one wish this year this only would it be I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me! These students were members of Mrs. Davidson's first Kindergarten class here at Miles. They are also members of this year's Sr. Class! Thirteen years ago, several youngsters climbed up the steps of the old Kindergarten building to find Mrs. Madalene Davidson there with a welcoming smile. They learned the alphabet and all their numbers, and even learned how to write their names. Today, those same students, in 1984, received their high school diplomas. Over the years many things have changed. For instance, youngsters today attend class in a new building designed especially for kindergarteners. However, many things have not changed. Mrs. Madalene Davidson still welcomes her students with a smile . . . I Z X . .,,..x,, i ... Il' 1 1 . Q C f raer C . if Ki'1 -- - ' x , 5 - . W ierr n J or inii j erark n Dena Lange, . But they never lost sight of that Bulldog pride! This year's team was made up of 5 seniors, 7 juniors, 7 sophomores, and 3 freshmen. C s 51 - Football - The 1983 football season at MHS will be a memorable one for me personally. Although our record was 1-9, I enjoyed working with the players that came out and put forth their ef- forts. We, as a team, did achieve our team goal which we set at the beginning of the football campaign. That was to simply strive to be the best team that we could be. We were able to accomplish this because of the 4 9' attitude and the hard Work of l iti . our football players. I, as a ' coach, am very proud and 5. Once a hotel in downtown Miles, the Opera House also contained the city's post office. Eighty years later, the Opera House still offers much to area residents. No longer a hotel, it is now the official meeting place and activity center for the Senior Citizens of Miles. Purchased in September, 1976, by the M.P.A., the center provides hot meals for the elderly twice a week, along with various other activities for its members. Quilts, baked goods, crafts of all kinds and exhibits of yesteryear are ever present. Recently, an upstairs auditorium has been added to the center. The activities offered entertainment for all ages ranging from the Senior bingo to the toy walk sponsored by the Kindergarten. Students and parents worked in the various booths and each class sold chances on many dif- ferent prizes. As usual, many children kept up the spirit of Halloween by dressing up in costume. l l Many valuable prizes were donated by local merchants and given away at the carnival. People-young and old alike took part in the many exciting events. - All School Pageant Students Visit Toyland Christmas is for children-children of all ages, that is! This year's pageant was under the direction of Mrs. Io Nita Schwarz, FHA Advisor, and D'Ann Book, FHA Historian. Many high school and elementary students combined their talents of singing, modeling, and decorating, to make the pageant a huge success! Due to bad weather in December, the annual Christmas dance was delayed until Ianuary 14. The traditional Grand March was followed by plenty of music ranging from rock to country. The old gym was the setting for the dance that lasted un- til midnight. Also, the junior class provided Winter decorations and streamers to dress up the gym. Even though Christmas was almost a month earlier, the fun and excitement remained! Iunior class members work to l decorate the old gym. Students in formal dresses and suits? Seniors displayed a variety of emotions before graduation. Graduation '84 - It's Up To You A diploma's very special- It's like a golden key That turns the lock on any door Marked opportunity. But one thing to remember If you Want to get inside- It's up to you to give the nudge That swings it open wide. And it's up to you to take the lead Once you're inside the door To see if what's behind it Is what you've been looking for. Then if it is, you have to mold it Really push it, tug it, too Till that opportunity becomes A big success for you. x So use your key, but be aware It's just a key at best And remember that it's up to you To go and do the rest. - Seniors?????
