With several starters and lettermen returning, the Bulldogs had a team goal of winning the 7A District Championship. After strong showings in the two pre-season scrimmages against Rocksprings and Blanket, the team of Bulldogs began the regular season with two sound victories over Water Valley and Loraine. Sterling City gave the Bulldogs their first loss in a hard fought battle. Miles rebounded by defeating a strong Garden City team. In the last non- district game, Roby beat Miles in a mistake-filled game. The Bulldogs began district play by shutting out their first three opponents, which included a 8-0 defeat of Santa Anna in a hard played defensive game. In an offensive game Miles defeated their arch rival, the Bronte Longhorns, by the score of 26-19. In the showdown for the West Zone Championship, the men from Miles defeated Eden 22-6 in one of their best played games of the season. This victory earned Miles the right to play Gorman for the coveted 7A District Championship. The Bulldogs fell short of their goal by losing to Gorman in the game played at Brownwood. While the Miles Bulldogs did not attain their team goal, the 1981 season holds so many memories. The team finished with a season record of 8-3 and placed several players on the District 7A West Zone All-District team fpictured belowl. The Iunior Varsity team also played some exciting games and finished the season with a 3-3 record. The sucess of the season for the Bulldogs is a tribute to the players and the coaching staff for their hard work throughout the season and also to the student body and loyal fans that backed their team-Win or Lose! lst Team Offense-Mike West, Tony Dillon, Phil King, Greg Schwertner, Willie Banks, Ruben Casarez.
