' Basketball Qoys Q3 1 mf 4-get ffoorbazll boys FOOTBALL The Mlldred Eagle football team made a good showmg dunng the season of 1940 The games were as follows September 20 Mlldred defeated Mabank on the Eagle field by a score of 20 to 6 Thls was the fxrst game of the season and the boys as a whole looked mlghty good September 27 the Eagles defeated Frost on the Eagle fxeld by a score of 25 to 6 The team had much more cooperat1on and even looked better than 1n the prevlous game October 4 the Eagles won over Trmldad the strong com petltlon of thelr dxvlslon by a score of 12 to 0 Thxs was a very tlght game untxl just before the half when Games broke loose next play the Eagles scored The team as a whole dld some mlghty fme work ln th1s game October 11 the Eagles defeated Montalba on the Eagle freld by a score of 13 to 6 Thls was a very hard game However there were some outstandmg runs by some of the backs rn th1s game October 18 the Eagles defeated Fra.nkston on the Eagle f1eld by a score of 35 to 0 The Eagles could have advanced th1s score much more but Mr Sebasuan wanted to glve some of his next year boys some expenence October 25 the Eagles defeated the Kerens Bobcats for the f1rst tune by a score of 7 to 6 Thls was a game that all of the boys had thexr heart set on wmmng and every one played a mce game November 8 the Eagles defeated Mxlford on the Eagle field by a score of 33 to 0 The Eagle ends and passers d1d some excellent work rn th1s game although the freld became soggy and the game was played 1n a dnzzlmg ra1n November 15 the Eagles defeated Dawson by a score of 6 to 0 on the Eagle fxeld Thxs was the worst game of the season that the Eagles played 5 J K' 7 wil.--X ..- ,lg , l 4 la E 1 5 Q l n i 5 . Neither of these two teams had been defeated during the season of 1940. The Eagles lost this game to Italy by a score of 18 to 0. The Eagles never gave up until the whistle blew for the end of the game. There was a nice crowd that attended the game and the school was not ashamed of their boys for losing, for every one did his best. The Eagles won 9 out of 10 games. The cap' tains of the team were johnny Sirman and Harold Garland. The following boys received sweater awards: Fendley Bene- field, Alden Wilcox, Alon Gaines, Harold Garland, David Burnett, Derwood Gaines, Harold Franklin, John Treadwell, J. C.
