Mikkelson, J. Sly, L. McFarland, B. Westphal, A. Karels, P. Folk. DEBATE Arguing the labor question, the experienced debaters began the season with a trip to Moorhead, Minn., Dec. 3-5. Other weekends found the debaters exercising their vocal cords at Brookings, Vermillion, Huron, Sioux Falls, and Redfield; they ended the regular season with a 34-25 record. The experienced debaters won for their coach the Outstanding Coach Award in the Aber- deen tourney with a second place record of 7-3, and, tying for first, they took second place in the NES meet in Milbank behind Doland. Co-champions in the regional debate tourney, Milbank and Watertown were award- ed individual trophies with the privilege of entering the State tournament at Huron on April 1-2. The inexperienced debate squad, 21 strong, also had the opportunity to attend quite a few tournaments, and did very well, closing the season with a 19-26 record. The four standards of the National Honor Society are Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service. Fifteen per cent of the junior class is initiated into this organization each year. There are two installations—one in the fall and the other in the spring. The pass system was one of the projects that the National Honor Society put into effect. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, represented by every club and organization in the school along with the class representa- tives, helped to form some of the policies of Milbank High School this year. With the advice and supervision of Mr. Campbell, the council undertook the task of raising funds for the Red Cross.
