DEDICATION We students of Milbank High School open our door of success with the keys of education and experience given to us by the faculty. An educator's path often is made narrow ... he finds it difficult to steer some of us through the fog to our door of succcess. But at last we reached the door ... as we grasp the key and nervously unlock the door, we turn and ask for help. But the help is not there . . . the educators have fulfilled their job . . . The Annual Staff of the 1954 Bulldog dedicates this yearbook to the faculty. Milbank High School, Milbank, South Dakota SCHOOL BOARD Left to right around the table: Supt. Chicago I Chicago I This was the Senior theme song April 22 to April 25. The Aquarium, Theatre, Museum, Art Institute, and the Zoo were a few of the highlights. The windy city provided one of the many climactic moments in the exciting roll of the Seniors. This, then, is the end. Each class of graduates leaves certain attributes to be attained by other students. The class of ’54 will be remembered for its scholarship, ser- vice, and leadership. Their high school past is gone, but th.e future is still their own for each individual to develop. Soon the Juniors will take the last step to become seniors. This has perhaps been one of the most climatic years of their high school careers. The class was represented in ath- letics, speech, and various clubs throughout the school. Probably the most outstanding and the longest remember- ed will be their presentation of the classic. The first year as a “freshie” is completed. As soon as the freshmen entered MHS they quickly took their places in an active school life. As the year progressed, typical of the freshman, he was found underfoot engaged in all activities. James Randall and Mary Burges soon became active on the debate squad. Jim also placed in declam in the fall of 1953. Many of the girls were active in the FHA. Also new, was their class advisor, Miss Sally Fick, who helped members of the class to adjust to the many changes in secondary education. However, now they are ready to assume the title of “sophomore”. But the class does not stop here; on it pushes forth to the covetous position of a senior. Spirits were put at a high pitch Thursday evening at a rousing pep lest and bonfire. A twisting, turning snake dance led MHS students to the scene, which was climaxed with cheers for the team and fight-on speech- es from alumnae. Floats of every size, shape, color and variety turned out Friday morning at 10:30 for the traditional Homecoming parade. The freshmen class took first place honors with a hunting theme in float competition; the M club second, and the Merry Stenos third. The time was drawing closer. At 2:00 p.m. that afternoon the Milbank Bullpups met the Watertown B squad, the Bullpups facing defeat. How- ever, enthusiasm still supreme, Homecoming rocketed to a terrific climax with the defeat of the Redfield Pheasants — 19 to 7. MHS Homecoming concluded with a dance following the game. Thus, another Homecoming, another victory — now, another memory. Strong in the sprints and field events, lack of experienced depth hurt their chances. Running in fewer meets than usual, the thinclads ran in six major meets: Redfield Relays, Aberdeen Relays, Sectional Meet, Northeast Con- ference Meet, Whetstone Conference Meet and the Regional, making a good showing at them all.
