Class Hlstory In the lall of l953, the Class of 57 entered M H S as freshmen F1fty four boys and fifty three glrls were ready to begin four eventful years At our f1rst class meeting we elected class offlcers Gail McConeghy,PTes1dent, Harvey Greenleaf, Vice President, Sharon Edwards, Secretary, Belva Falk, Treasurer, and L J Togman, Student Council Representative The advisors for this year were Mr Jones and M s Makelski when the Freshman Reception was held we got ac quainted w1th our fellow classmates and the teachers Although our first year wasn't too eventful, we learned to work together as a class Our officers for our sophomore year were Robert Shelton, President, L J Tooman, Vice President, Tom Moebs, Secretary, Jerry Smith, Treasurer, and Chuck Cabbage, Student Councll Representative Our advisors were Mr Allan and Miss Vannorsdahl Th1s year we began to Join a few clubs and take part 1n extra currlcular activities The highlight of this year was selectlng our class rings, of wh1ch we are still v ry proud Our junior year was more eventful than the previous two had been We adopt ed a po1nt system by which the member of the class could receive points for work in class activitles Then each student was to receive money toward his trlp, de pending on h1s total number of polnts Our officers for th1s year were L J Tooman, President, Don Kondor, Vice President, Mary Hack, Secretary, Richard v1sors were Mr Heimburger and Mr Busch We sold popcorn during the football games and sponsored a coat check during the basketball games On January 28, our class sponsored a record hop w1th Oll1e's Caravan from Ann Arbor Spring came and we were busier than ever we had a car wash On May 23 we took a trip to Greenfield Vlllage Next came our Jun1or Play, Cheaper by the Dozen, April 21 Dlrected by M s Freatman, it attracted a record breaking crowd The Junior Senlor Receptlon was held May 25, featuring the theme, Emerald Isle Some class members acted as Honor Guard for the Sen1or Class at Commencement Our officers for the enior year were Jim Linfield, President, Jerry Smith, V1ce Pres1dent, Jean Head, Secretary, Louise Schmenk, Treasurer, Harvey Miskerik, Student Councll Representative Our advisors were Mr Jones and M Busch r money making projects this year were a concession stand at the football and basketball games, raking leaves, and selling magazines We had our Homecoming Dance after the U High game and Jean Hanson was chosen Queen, with Mary Hack as her senior attendent On December 8 l956 we held our Senior Play, Bolts and Nuts, directed by Mrs Joan Kelly On April 7 we left on our long awaited Senior Trip to washlngton The trip lasted five days and everyone arrived home exhaust ed On May 2h we attended the Junior Senior Reception, put on for us by the Junior Class The annual Award Assembly and Swing Out were held May 31 On June 2, Baccalaureate was held Finally the big day, June 6, arrived This was our Commencement Day That evening Donald M Curry, Associate Dean of Student Affairs from Eastern Mlchigan College, spoke to us This was the last time we would all be together But the four years preceding the receipt of our diplomas would al ways provlde many toplcs for pleasant reminiscing 9 .. , N , - Casterline, Treasurer, Harvey Miskerik, Student Council Representative.
