They had rough competition from many area schools but the drive and determination proved that each team was ready and willing to fight. Despite being a difficult year for both var- sity and reserve, the coaches, players, and fans put out great efforts. Junior High Football at Milan High School prepares younger boys for high school football. This year was a time of learning new skills and rules. It helped the boys to build self-confidence. Although the Junior High did not have a winning season they were ready to move on to Jr. Varsity at the end of the year. INDIANS LEFT: Coach Ralston seeks help from above. Each player had the satisfaction of knowing that he did his best to make this a successful year for his or her team. The fans of Milan High School were proud of all the Indian basketball teams. The Mighty Indian Varsity team had a rewarding season this year. These semi-finalists of the sectional ended the year with a 8-14 record. The Indians had three boys on the all-county team and one on the all- conference. M. Stegemiller, C. Cut- ter, and G. Cutter were chosen for the all county team. M. Art Students Express Talent The Art Department of the Milan Jr.-Sr. High School presented selected works in a variety of tech- niques including drawing, painting, sculpture, batik, macrame, and other crafts. Of special interest in the exhibit were two works which received Honorable Mention awards at the Scholastic Art Award competition in Indianapolis. They were soft sculp- ture by Jana Kohlmeier, and a col- ored embossment by Bernadette Kroner. The exhibit is a statewide competition for Jr.-Sr. high stu- dents. The strict judging enables only a few hundred works to be selected from several thousand which are entered annually. Lions Club Recognizes Minds A t Work The Lions Club held their annual Honor Night for students in the Milan School district who were to receive special awards for scholastic achievement. This was the motto of the class of '77. The last year at Milan High School was full of memories, both sad and happy, but memories that will never be forgot- ten. The years of participation in decorating floats, attending school dances and the proms, and taking part in other extra-curricular activities that served an important part of their life was over much too soon. The day of graduation was one day the seniors look for- ward to at the stan of the year; but as the year prog- ressed, the seniors felt the time had gone much too fast. Juniors Prepare To Be The Leaders Good times, laughs, and hard work were in store for the junior class. Raising money for the prom proved to be difficult; yet exciting. Much work was required to reach their goal--a successful prom. The concession stand and chili suppers were the main projects of the year for the juniors. They struggled through each task but always came out on top. They will never be able to erase the memories of the junior year and most will wish to treasure them in their future. Where is Room 210? was often asked by a seventh grader early in the 1976-1977 school year. Being at the high school was a totally new and scary experience for most class members of '82. The apprehension of mak- ing mistakes in front of the senior high school students made the days seem longer and more horrifying. On the other hand, new experiences made the days go faster and also helped to develop self-confidence and pride. Tutoring students who needed extra help gave them experi- ence in different areas of teaching. They proved themselves very helpful not only helping other students but also assisting teachers by grading papers, figuring grades, and basically received on the job training for their desired future careers. A trip to the diagnostic center in Sunman also helped them understand their field. TOP RIGHT: FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA-- Row 1--J. John, N. Brashears, D. Delap. D. Bible, J. Rayner, B. Lohrum. Bits and pieces of information appealing to the students were collected and organized into this annual. Cheryl attended a yearbook workshop camp at San Angelo University in San Angelo, Texas, for a week to learn all the tricks and trades of making a successful yearbook. Again this year the staff members sold ads to local merchants. These ads appear in the back section. With the support from area businesses, the Rebus Staff earned enough money to pay for over half of each indi- vidual yearbook bought. Patience was the key to making this a treasure of memories. Lettermen Receive Jackets Students who received a letter in at least one sport were eligible to be a member of the Letterman Club. Although it was called ”Letterman,” girls participated also. With the help of Mr. Thompson and Mr. Ratledge, money was made to help buy jackets by selling concessions at home games and by selling cush- ions. TOP LEFT: LETTER CLUB--Row 1: D. Higham, J. Running errands, checking absence slips, and answering phone calls were all a part of the routine office jobs. Chewing gum and ’’keeping an eye on the natives” had a special meaning in the library. On this day, students attended these schools to compare and be aware of different learning situa- tions . The senior members wore a white cord with their caps and gowns to sym- bolize their membership in this club. MIDDLE RIGHT: NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY-- Row 1: T. Applegate, R. Park. N. Ridenour. J. A news release was printed once a week for the first semester plus the regular edition once a month. Making money was not always easy, but enough funds were made from sell- ing sweaters and T-shirts to keep the papers coming off the press. With the help of their sponsor, Mr. Sagester, an additional project was a book fair. Students visited the exhibit not only to examine the books but to order their favorites. These four history fans with Mrs. Droege had many outings. During the fall they vis- ited the Harding Homestead and the Old Cemetary at Old Milan. Here they read memorials and tombstones of the past, noted dates and learned bits and pieces of history. Other trips included taking a tour of Hill Forest Mansion in Aurora and fol- lowing the White Water Canal. While in the Metamora area, the club saw the First Baptist Church built in Indi- ana in 1812. TOP RIGHT: JR. HIGH HISTORICAL SOCIETY — G. Sparks. T. Seiler, A. Bohlke, A. Warren, Mrs. Droege. The time between August and May has become nothing but a collection of memories. 1 hope this book brings back a feeling of once belonging, for now the only way we can look back on the most impor- tant years is through the reflections of the 1976-77 Rebus. The work is finished; the type- writers are silent; the room is empty. A lot of work has been put in this book and 1 cannot thank everyone enough for all the work. My deepest appreciation goes to Mrs. Waehaus, Mr. Baurley, the staff at Texas, Mr. Taylor, and the whole Rebus Staff.
