Although this year may seem very much like the year before it, we are all faced with changes. In addition to the beginning of a new school year, it is also the cele- bration of our country's 200th birth- day. 4 Exploring Is Education Exploration Days provide many different aspects of life for everyone to take a part in at Milan High School. As midnight drew near, the Milan Prom came to a close for another year. However, the evening's fes- tivities continued as the party-goers proceeded to the afterprom which was held at the Star-Lite Drive-In. The movies were Romeo and Juliet and Smile. FAR LEFT: S. Assignments, reports, tests, themes, history notes, homework-they ail became even more real as he prepared for moving on to his last year at Milan. Not only did juniors become learned scholars by knocking their brains out studying, but they became supersalesmen in their efforts to raise money for the prom. All their efforts paid off in the end, though. Everyone (almost everyone) passed their classes and the prom was a magical night. Suddenly Nothing Is The Same This year began like the other eleven years -registra- tion, book rentals, schedules, etc. But it was a differ- ent year-the last time the class of '76 would be tog her and the end of twelve years of studying, working ■ nd growing. This realization caused a variety of reactions among the seniors. Proofs arrived for senior pictures; homecoming queen candidates were chosen; announcements picked; memory books signed; and caps and gowns ordered (red and blue this bicen- tennial year). Long hair and jeans were the styles for boys and girls. Bib overalls and long underwear tops were worn by both sexes. Skirts (the few that were seen) dropped from 12 inches above the knee to 6 inches below. A sudden overnight growth in height and a strange stilted walk down the hallway were often the results of a senior tottering on 3 or 4 inch plat- form shoes. Class officers are pictured at the right. Cheerleaders Lead Spirit Cheerleading began last summer for the varsity and reserve cheer- leaders when they attended a cheer- leading camp at Indiana University to leam new cheers, chants, and stunts to set the spirit machine at MHS into motion. Their job as cheerleaders continued through the year as they worked hard not only leading cheers at ballgames and pep sessions but also by making up skits, managing fan buses, teaching cheers to the fans, promoting spirit week, and many other things they often did not receive credit for doing. However, they had a great deal of fun and gained personal experience in working with others. It was a time of beautiful floats, parades, queen candidates, and lots of excitement. The 1975 football team battled hard to win over the Aurora Red Devils but they eventually lost 6- 14. At half time the Milan High School Band gave an excellent per- formance. Then came the announcement of the winning float constructed by the class of 77”. Miss Robin Collier was crowned Homecoming Queen for 1975. After the game Free and Easy played at the dance in the cafeteria for all who wished to join in the fun. BOTTOM RIGHT: The judges are faced with the decision of who should win. The 1975 varsity football team ended their season with 2 wins and 7 losses. Although they were down many times, this did not affect the strong willpower of our Indians to win nor the enthusiastic cheering of the fans. The Milan fans supported their team this year by having three of the largest crowds in MHS history attend the games. The players improved greatly and should be out to get 'em” next season. OP. seasons have come and gone, the halls are empty, the classrooms are quiet, and preparation for the next school year soon begins. While our country continues its birthday celebration, those gradu- ating seniors are faced with begin- ning their job careers or completing their education. As another school year draws to a close another yearbook is com- pleted. 1 would like to thank Mrs. Waehaus, Mr. Baurley, Deraid Ailes, Mr. Taylor, the staff, and all of our advertisers who made it possible to put this 1976-1977 Bicentennial Yearbook together.
