Undefeated and unt1ed was the record set by the 1953 Mllaca Football In dlans a goal unattamed s1nce 1939 The crownmg touch to the end of a perfect season was the nam1ng of four players to the All Rum Rwer Conference team They were Truman Bu1sman Carl Hjort Bob Stewart and Roy Nelson Roy IS the only Jun1or of the group the others bemg senlors Other semors on the squad were Bob Mork Roland Katke Gene Schreur Bob R1chardson and War ren M1les M1les however m1ssed the ent1re season because of an mjury Stewart Hjort and Bu1sman were co captams of the team The usual regular lxneup had Mateffy and I-Ijort at the ends Larson and Ved ders at the tackles Gary Johnson and Nelson at the guards w1th e1ther Mork or Gale Johnson at center The backfxeld cons1sted of Stewart at quarterback Marudas and Anderson at the halfbacks and Bu1sman at fullback The Indmans hada very good offenslve attack but what thelr opponents feared most was the1r hard tacklmg M1laca had by far the hardest h1tt1ng team 1n the conference Claffy had the Ind1ans playmg the rock'em sock'em football that made every other team actually fear the thought of playmg the hard sockmg In d1ans Three of the boys who really played tough defens1ve football thxs past year l1ne and Bu1sman outszde l1nebacker Stewart Marudas and Anderson made up the usual defens1ve backf1eld Hjort was the lead1ng pass recelver on the squad He Mateffy and Maru das were the lead1ng targets for quarterback Stewart's aerxals Anderson was the club's lead1ng ground gamer from h1s left half pos1t1on Bu1sman the rugged fullback had the d1stmct1on of never bemg tackled for a loss the entrre season Bu1s and Andy could nearly always pxck up the yards when the team needed It most Much of the offenswe cred1t also rests on the shoulders of the lme w1th out whom the backs could never have done There are only three pos1t1ons left open by the graduatmg semors These are fullback quarterback and one of the ends Because of th1s comparat1vely small loss the Indxans could roll agam Milaca Mllaca Mllaca Mllaca Milaca Mxlaca Mllaca Mllaca Gnd Record OgllVl8 Pnnceton Osseo Mora Cambndge Elk Rxver Foley Braham 60 . , . . i . .
