Silence was more than golden to her when she first joined usg it meant A's in conduct. But no .v she has come out of her shell, and We are proud of her many scholastic achievements. Martha's prized possession is her pony, Dick, and a canter on him is her chief delight. If you want to strike up a conversation, just be- gin with the equine family. We under- stand that Martha is preparing' herself to teach. Think of us someday, when you are initiating' your class into the mysteries of mathematics. Ruth Dorcas Hommel Ruthie Freshman General Science Club, 15 Ellglish Club, 1: Wl. C. T. U. Medal, 15 Civics Club, 25 Library Club, 3, 4. Ruth is an active member of our class and is continually thinking' of new ways to fool us. She spends quite a lot of her time in the commercial department, pre- paring' for a commercial career. tBut, per- haps Charlie will have something' to say about thatb. VVe know you are a capable and efficient worker, Ruth, and we feel sure of your success ' 1 'A' ' -1 4: -n Q, Iohn Preston Kaler Ii99S Helen Elizabeth Hickernell Commercial Club, 45 Glee Club, 4. Helen is among' those who have join- ed us in our last year at dear old M. H. S. She formerly answered roll call in Reno, Nevada, and since her arrival has become the center of much azzraczlon. Helen ri- vals all other typists in the commercial de- partment and is very efficient in all other commercial subjects. VVe sincerely trust that our friendship will not end with graduation and that Helen's flashy green roadster will be a familiar sight around town this summer Football, 35 Mathematics Club, 3, 4. John came to us in our Junior year. Along' with the rest of the bussers, he has the privilege of being' late with im- punity. He early earned his nickname from the skit, Maggie and Jig'g's, given on the annual class program. John since then has become a familiar figure, rather a prominent figure when called upon to recite 1? Z' 'IJ But in spite of all that, John is a good friend and our best wishes ,go with him.

Eleanor is one of our most versatile classmates, also one of our best friends. Dancing, singing, dramatics, piano-all are among her achievements. She has also done her best in holding high the ban- ner of M. H. S., in athletic contests and has succeeded in most instances. With mixed emotions we must admit that this young' lady is one of those queer crea- tures known as mathematicians, who speak in such unintelligible terms as to make us believe their brains are addled. But however that may be, we are proud of Eleanor and are assured or her suc- cess in the study of dramatics. Edna, the belle of Vicksburg, is one ot' our very best all-around students and certainly knows how to get A's. She nat- urally enjoys school, although there may be some attraction aside from her studies, who can tell? Edna is very much interest- ed in the school welfare work carried on in the Kentucky mountains and she would like to teach there, You have our best wishes,2Edna, but don't start a feud! Martha is rather a homebody and plans when she'll have a home of her own. We wonder how well shorthand and household tasks will mix, Martha's domes- tic character cropped out when she played to perfection her role in one of the Senior Plays. We sincerely trust Red won't mind sitting on damp chairs, Martie! i i Q i Margaret Helen Klose f.HOn,, Glee Club, 1, 2, 3, 43 Freshman Gen.- eral Science Club, 13 Basketball, 1, 23 Baseball, 13 General Activity Club, 223 Library Club, 3, 43 Class Play, 3, 43 Nautilus Staff, 4. Helen is the miss from Shady Corner, who has been dubbed Sorrel-Top. If you see a flash here and there, it will pro- bably be Helen, for she's certainly peppy and also very obliging. Helen was chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary as the girl member of '33 exemplifying qualities of character, etc. She has always been an important member in class activities, and the nursing profession will claim another worthy member of our class.
