COMPUTERS New to Mifflin this year are fifteen new Apple HE computers. With concerns about computer literacy among high school students, the Columbus Public Schools purchased these computers. Small computers were not in the range of many school budgets until the 1983-84 school year. These computers are located in the old ditto room adjacent to the library. With an almost limitless amount of applications, the computer room is always buzzing with activity. Programs designed to help students with their work, word processing, and even games, help keep the waiting list for computer classes long. Many students are also members of the newest club to Mifflin: The computer club. Teachers also got in on the act by taking a computer class for credit at Ohio State. The class was conducted at Mifflin, the computers made that possible, but the credit was transferred to Ohio State. The equipment in the computer room includes monitors, computer units, disk drives, and printers. Software, which is also included, adds nearly an infinite amount of things that can be done in the room to make life easier for both student and teacher. Below, Mr. Denune, who helps run the computer room, gives some help to Teresa Dilbeck, Tammy Smith, Becky Dailey, Shirley Rainey and Michelle Boyce. During the day, Mr. Baum, Mr. Denune and Mrs. Shibler run the computer room. Also, Mrs. Shibler remains after school every night until four o ' clock for students and teachers who would like to learn more about computers. 1 mam K Top: Tony Stiggers and Donald Fitzgerald share a secret at the Homecoming Dance. The Break One of the newest fads introduced during the 1983-84 school year was Break Dancing. Besides having good rhythm, break dancing involves great athletic, gymnastic and creative ability. The dance originated in the ghettos of New York City as a way for street gang members to compete among each other instead of fighting. Almost every where one looks, one can see the many moves of break dancing being executed. Moves such as: the swipe, kickworm, freezing, backsliding, ticking, waving, and popping are practiced by many daring people who love to dance. To ensure one ' s self of drawing a huge crowd, all one needs is a box and the ability to break. This form of dance has become so popular that Hollywood has produced a movie, Breakin ' , to illustrate to the world its form and technique. The name of the dance probably comes from the accidents which occured when someone would execute a move wrong. An incorrect move could lit erally break one ' s neck. To the right, Shaune Harris demonstrates his ability in the art of Breaking. A . Left: Robert Carter tries his hand at dunking a teacher during the Powder Puff football game.
