PRlNCIPAL'S MESSAGE Dear Graduates, lt is most fascinating to contemplate the future of the young men and women of this Class of '78. It is from this class that will come the artists, business persons, technicians, scholars and leaders for the 21st Century. The mind is somewhat dazzled at the prospects of the future, and you will be part of it. ln fact, it is because of you that the future will happen. How different will the future be? How different will the 21st Century be from our present way of life? I am sure that the technical achievements will be beyond our current imagination. In the 21st Century we will know neither food nor raw material shortages. It is conceivable that because of telecommunications, the general citizen will have instantaneous and immediate effect upon legislation. We will enter into a new dimension in time and distance, in a relative manner we will measure miles as if they were inches. The methods that we depend upon today for the transferral of knowledge may very well be obsolete with new methods utilized that are beyond our present comprehension. lt will no doubt be a world much different from ours in many ways, but not in all ways. There are universal, timeless, human qualities and values that have persisted throughout the millennia. They are factors in the human equation that must be present in the 21st Century in order to insure human existence. Values such as caring for the dignity and welfare of one's fellow man and woman, honesty and decency, the need and desire to work hard and achieve excellence, are qualities that must be present in the 21st Century, for without them there cannot be a permanent future. The men and women of the 19th Century implanted deeply in their offspring the seeds of these important values and they have flourished in the 20th Century. And so now it is our hope that the men and women who are first starting out in the 20th Century carry forth the worthwhile human values that we cherish, into the 21st Century. l am most assured that the 21st Century will be a sparkling era because of you!
