Dear Seniors, Yours is a class to be proud of, the class of 1976 has excelled above and beyond the standards set for you. Whether it be in scholarship, college admissions, academic attainment or school life, this class has been a true pace setter, a model for future classes to emulate. When I think back over the accomplishments of the class of 1976, my thoughts gravitate to your championship SING of December, 1974, when you were juniors, an unheard of thing to be sure! What impressed me most about Sing, 1975 was the story line. It dealt with human understanding and the ultimate need for cooperation. It was this cooperation that helped steer a foundering ship through a deep storm. Now in your graduating year, a real storm is upon us. Economic thunderheads menace our passage while New York City pitches wildly in the gales of fiscal crisis. The financial distress of our City has found its way into Midwood and every other school this year. The way has been difficult indeed, but we have made it to port, to your graduation! They say our City is dying, that its future is bleak, but I do not agree. I can clearly see the class of 1976 and other graduating classes throughout the City like it, bringing needed skills and professions to our town in the future years. I can see young men and women, such as you, breathing new life into this, the greatest metropolis the world has ever seen. You have a great challenge before you, we are counting on you. There is no road to follow but that which leads to light, brilliance, and to a renaissance of greatness for this City that has nurtured you. Your graduation then is the beginning. Let us now get on with the job! Sincerely, X 1 , ,,,,, L ... Principal
