math department Four score and seven years ago tthat's 87t our fathers brought forth on this continent a new subject, math, con- ceived in confusion and dedicated to the proposition that most students will fail. Now we are engaged in a great regents, testing whether that student or any other student, so bothered and so puz- zled can long endure . . . The world Will little note nor long remember the answers we give, but it can never forget how many flunked . . . It is for us to be dedicated to the great task before us, that from these cubic equations we get three roots, that we here resolve that finally these parabolas will be graphed, that this test under our guidance shall finally have a twenty-point curve and that this math course against the students, by the teachers and disastrous to averages, Will be finally under- stood. science departments The odor of sulfur in the halls; the cluttering of test tubes in the chem lab; the Dull author of our chemistry books: these are just some of the many sights and sounds of the science department. Mr. Reich, chairman of the Biological Sciences Depart- ment, and Mr. Weissmom, chairman of the Physical Sciences Department, both in spotless white coats, lead their teachers down the dusky halls to labs and classrooms. There students discuss the nature of the atom, peek into the intestines of CI frog, learn of the world of DNA, and calculate the electronega- tivity differences of the elements. They study the very essence of the world: its nature, its beings, its laws. The science department is a port of not only the Class- room but also extracurricular activities. Projects include the Westinghouse Scholarship, won this year by William Edel- stein. Aside from the required sciences, there is CI variety of advanced courses available for students With a greater in- terest in doing intensive work in the subject. These include hematology, 10b techniques, college biology, chemistry and physics. PHYSICAL SCIENCES Seated aett to righn: Mr. Dori: Mrs. Schloasberg; Mr. Weissman, Chairman: Mrs. Roberts: Mr. Doskow.
