social studies department The Social Studies Department strives to equip each student With fundamental knowl- edge of world and American history and eco- nomics. Through the use of texts, maps, maga- zines, newspapers, debates and reports, facts and dates, people and places come alive in the classroom. History is no longer CI thing of the past but an important part of the present and the future. The overworked, underpaid teachers bravely rcrlly behind their leader, Mr. Illivicky, and move onward undaunted to such services as special tutorial classes set up before the re- gents to make up for time lost in the transit strike. For two hours a day, apart from the regular S.S. class, students reviewed two and CI half years of work. Social Studies encompasses many areas, besides the usual subjects of history and eco- nomics. There is the Social Studies Forum ta group discussion on current topicst and Road Ahead, both supervised by Mr. Leventhal.
