The ArT Squad, Midwood's closeT, minus mofh-balls and hangers, housed Epilog during iTs creaTive sTage. ln order noT To inTerTere wiTh The budding Bohemians, we were given a corner oT This room To do our work. Our desTinies are scaTTered and, For All We Know We May Never MeeT Again, buT The close experi- ences shared by us will long be remembered and will serve as The binding Tie To our class. l Four years OT sound academic Training combined wifh The under- sTanding OT a compeTenT TaculTy I I I earemark our class. During These pasT Tour years, Through our pa- TienT insTrucTors, we have learned by doing, Those aTTiTudes, qualiTies, and values which are characTerisTic oT The DemocraTic principles oT all Tree men. We, as sTudenTs, have been TaughT noT To allow The imporTance OT maTerial acquisiTions To supersede The moral and eThical values which Truly make Tor an abiding success. We sTudenTs have been TorTunaTe in having Dr. Ross Tor our Principal. Under his adminisTraTive policies and his advisory capabiliTies, Midwood has become an ouTsTanding high school. T-lis personal inTeresT in us, as individuals, has creaTed a close Tie beTween The oTTice oT principal and sTudenT body. The sTep which we are abouT To Take is a major one, Tor we leave our closely shelTered school home To Tace The insecure ouTside world. ln These Times oT world conTlicT, iT is hard To say ThaT we Tace a brighT Tomorrow. The Tomorrow yeT To come is based upon Today, The presenT: and as high school graduaTes, we Tind The Task of molding ThaT brighT Tomorrow in our own hands. As young people, we musT devoTe our youTh, our ideals, and our energies Towards making ThaT secure and happy TuTure. To have iT we musT earn iT. Our course oT sTudy has been inTense and varied. Some oT The subiecT maTTer will become a parT oT us, parT OT our daily exisTence7 The resT, a parT oT our culTural background. YeT, success in living is noT measured in Terms oT book learning, buT by The basic undersTanding oT one's Tellow man, The basic respecT Tor one's Tellow man, and The basic Teelings Towards one's Tellow man. ln our school The opporTuniTy Tor broadening relaTionships wiTh oThers has been exTensive. The TacT ThaT we are leaving lvlidwood is no longer a dream, buT has maTerialized inTo a realiTy. We are The TruiTs oT The labors oT parenTs, Teachers, and Triends. The success oT Their Teachings depends upon us. The spring Term oT '53 draws To a close, and wifh iT end The TrusTraTions, Tailures, and disappoinTmenTs oT The class OT '53. Now ThaT we have reached The summing up, These Things seem Trivial in comparison To The road ahead. We Tace The TuTure armed wiTh dreams and high hopes, no burden Too heavy To bear, no heighT Too high To climb, and Tor our deTerminaTion To go Torward we say, Thank you, dear Mid- wOOd. BeTween ThaT beginning and The presenT, Midwood has changed Trom a new, young school To an old respecTed one. FirsT evenTs have become esTablished Mid- wood TradiTions. One OT The imporTanT TirsT evenTs was The esTablishmenT oT The Midwood STudenT GovernmenT modelled aTTer The municipal seTfup. ElecTions were held Tor The Top oTTicers, Mayor, ChieT JusTice oT The STudenT CourT, and CompTroller, and a consTi- +uTion was voTed upon. The diTTerenT candidaTes were represenTaTives oT The Blue. WhiTe, Liberal and New Deal parTies as well as independenTs, This sTudenT governmenT has since gradually evolved. The courT has disappeared as has The parTy sysTem, The laTTer aTTer much conTroversy. We musT have sTudenT parTicipaTionl cried some. l-low concerned everyone was during The TirsT parTy-less primary when sTudenT inTeresT was so low! l-low Those worried oTTicers would be amazed aT The presenT crowded primaries, where Twelve hopeTuls vie Tor The privilege oT running Tor oTTicel Argus, Too, has changed Trom The TirsT one Tull page issue pioneered by a small sTaTT. From ThaT beginning iT has changed To a Tabloid Torm and from a single page To an occasional Ten. A TalTering pioneer has become a venerable auThoriTy in scholasTic press compeTiTions. However, aT ThaT Time only a Tew acTiviTies were Tor The beneTiT oT The sTudenTs Themselves. Today, There is noT an inTeresT ThaT does noT have some ouTleT in Mid- wood's seT-up. Midwood's opening pracTically coincided wiTh The beginning oT World War ll and The eTTorTs oT MidwoodiTes were Turned To The aid oT Their counTry. Senior Proms were given up, and pupils as well as Teachers leTT Tor The armed services. ln This Tense aTmosphere Dr. Ross mainTained his wise and calm supervision. Marshalling The eTTorTs oT sTudenTs and TaculTy, he plunged Midwood inTo an all-ouT war eTTorT.
