The 20 faculty members taught in both the junior college and the high school, which was also in the building. Enrollment at this time was only fifty-five. Martin donated the present site of M.U. to Wichita Falls Iunior College, and the college received an endowment from the Hardin Foundation, which had been established by Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Hardin. In 1936 Wichita Falls Iunior College became Hardin Iunior College. Its first year, Hardin Iunior College had an enrollment of 206. The faculty consisted of nineteen members. The college grew slowly until after World War II. Hardin Iunior College became a four-year, accredited university in 1946, during Dr. Iames B. Boren's term as president. The name was changed to Midwestern University in 1951, ol, . ,. f . ,Ala-N -M-Y A ., F l'.- ' ' and in 1952 its graduate school was accredited by the State Board of Education. When Dr. Boren left M.U. in 1955, the enrollment had risen from 300 students to '2,000. Since Dr. Travis White became president in 1956, Midwestern has become a state-supported institution with an enrollment of 3,998. Its faculty now consists of 151 for the five schools of the university. w L :Hi M , H W V Q N, . . . .Y i P f 9.-H.. iV,if.?, t.
