PIGSKIN PARADE To begrn the 1947 Prgskrn Parade the Mrdwest Orlers were mvaded on therr home freld by the ever tough Wheatland Bulldogs on September 12 The Orlers takrng rnto consrderatron that they were mrnus many of last year s team played a fme season opener and won by the decrsrve score of 13 0 On September 23 the boys from the so called O11 Caprtal were guests of the oxl men at Mrdwest The Orlers clrcked all through the game and wrth ex ery man on Coach Bays squad gammg playmg experrence sent the Colts home to the Mustangs smartmg under a 50 0 defeat The orl men on October 3 ran up agarnst therr frrst conference game rn whrch they were matched wrth the Buffalo Brson Scorrng rn every quarter the Orlers ran over a small but determmed Brson team and added vrctory No 3 to therr l1st by a score of 31 0 Wrth the usual hustle for front seats the Bays coached grrdders were off for their frrst trrp of the season and therr second conference tussle wrth the Sundance Bulldogs on October 10 Not only was an afternoon trlt agarnst the Orlers who seldom play day games but there were also many penaltres rn the Dame makmg rt a hot contest How ever when the curtam fell endmg the fmal perrod the Orlers found themselves vrctors agann by a score of 20 0 Wxth therr goal lme strll uncrossed the Mrdwest Orlers were set to meet the tough est game of the season on October 11 on the Newcastle Doggres home freld Wrth all teams rn the conference wartrng results the game got under way fast and heavy wrth Newcastle drawmg frrst blood by crossrng the here to fore uncrossed goal lme of the Orler eleven but hope brlghtened as the Ollers scored back and led at the half by a score of 7 to 6 Both teams played top ball durmg the second half and when the trme clock trcked the last seconds away the score stood at 13 13 leavmg the conference trtle wrde open wrth a tre between the Doggles and the Orlers Wrth frve men mrnus from the startrng lme up because of a vrolatron of trarnrng rules the Ollers sad but determmed played host to the Lusk Trgers rn mud up to therr ankles The Onlers splashed therr way to a score of 7 to O by half trme The second half both teams held each other down and when the mud was washed off the score book the Mrdwest Orlers had vrctory No J Determxned to get revenge our team was off to Douglas to even the score of the one pomt defeat suffered at therr expense last year Playmg rn the afternoon both teams scored twrce but the Orlers got one more extra pomt The game was made excrtmg by many fumbles and last mrnute scorrng by Douglas although the Orlers eked out a vrc tory by a score of 13 to 12 Wrth snow fallrng lrghtly m the Orl Bowl the Orlers were set for the1r fmal game of the season the tradrtronal Armrstrce Day clash wrth the Grllette Camels Wrth the Powder Rrver Drstrrct Champronslup at stake the Orlers played heads up ball and frnrshed one of the best seasons Mxdwest ever had by a score of 13 6 The Orlers set a new record of seven wrns no defeats and one tre the f1rst such undefeated season rn the hrstory of Mrdwest Hrgh School 1 .
