Physical Education P. E. CLUB The Physical Education Club was formed this year by Miss Fern Bender with Joan McCain as president, Marvene Shidler, vice president, Janiel Sherard, secretary, Pauline Tanner and Ginger Connors, squad leaders. The purpose is to promote interest in physical education activities. The girls themselvse plan these activities in accordance to what they want to do. The members are composed of those taking gym, as the club meets during this period. One of the outstanding projects of this club will be to organize an all-school shuflle board and table tennis tournament during the spring. INTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES Intra-mural sports and track closed the sport season for 1947. Heading the list of class sports was the basketball tournament which ended with the Senior power- house upset by a determined Junior five. In the semi-finals the sophomores took a hard fought victory from the Freshmen for third place. The ,ping-pong tournament provided more excitement for some of the paddle- crazed students who felt they were more agile than others. Faculty members com- peted with the students. Coach Bays, Oral Davis, John Maher, Vic Nottingham, and Keith Bieg battled their way into the semi-finals, but the list quickly thinned out, leav- ing Coach Bays and Oral Davis to play for the championship. Davis won a close de- cision by topping the Coach three points. A tennis tourney was the final intra-mural sport with contenders battling the weather as Well as opponents for Hnal honors. The winners had their eye on an invi- tation to tilt with Sheridan. The track season brought out a lone letterman, Keith Bieg, from last year but promised some able challengers for the mile, Verne Hanseng for hurdles, Keith Biegg in dashes, Allen Griiiin and Robert Scotty and for the pole vault, Jack Hahn. Others on the squad were: Vic Nottingham, Wallace Petersen, Allan Carr, Jim Schofield, Billy Pike, Bill Daley, Donnie Shoop, John Maher, Barney Hoy, Dave Adams, Harley O'Con- nor, and Johnny Yale. A trip to Sheridan on May 4, was the big inter-school event.
