The Midwest City Bombers Football Team completed the 1956 season with a 5-4-1 Record. The Bombers played one of the hardest schedules in the state. The best victory of the year was the '7-6 de- feat of the Douglass High School team which later won the state AA Championship. Many fine things can be said about the 1956 squad, but one asset stands out above all, their desire to play as well as possi- ble every day. To these seniors we wish great success in later life: Martin Fricks, David Blevins, Howard Lane, Ends: Nolan White, tackleg Don Colston, Guardg Bill Daniels, centerg and Leon Anderson, Lewis Dearing, Doug- las Markham, Ronnie Uhl, backs. To the Juniors and Sophomores, we say carry on the great winning spirit and school pride that these Seniors have displayed. From the coaching staff, who realize how hard these boys have worked and the many sacrifices they have made to become good athletes, we say MANY THANKS. To these coaches we owe our thanks for guiding our team to the success it has had. Jim Harris, Ed Jacobsen, Babe Eubanks, Head Coach Jim Darnell. H.S. basketball team sported the best won-lost record in the school 's history with 20 wins and only 4 losses. Coach John Pratt 's battling Bombers were ranked sixth among AA schools in the state by the Daily Oklahoman. Highlights of the season were two wins over the powerful Douglas Highschool Trojans of Oklahoma Cityg winning the Midland Conference Championshipg and Junior center, Gary White, winning the individual scoring championship for schools in the city area by averaging slightly more than 20 points per game. By being good in its sports, a team not only makes themselves a name, but their whole town. Midwest City this year alone had an outstanding amount of good sports records. The football squad was outstanding as always. In wrestling, our team has progressed to become one of the finest in the state. Our basketball team, which was ranked one of the highest in the state, is to be commended for their sport and enthusiasm, as well as their ability to handle the ball. Our baseball team is sure to. be a suc- cess again this year. On top of that, we have many other sports coming to the front such as track, golf, and tennis. The boys that make up these good teams are the same boys who make up the M Club, a club for all boys who letter in some sport while in our school. It is the same principle as are the clubs in other cities of our size. It promotes good sportsmanship as well as it establisherbetter feelings between dif- ferent sports. The school year 1956-57 has been one of firsts for the Student Council. Not only has it continued with its usual activities, but it has also taken on many new ones, one being the juke box in the cafeteria. It furnishes the income which will be used for bringing a foreign student to M. C. H.S. next year. This Foreign Student Fund was the Council's main project this year. Conveniences furnished the student body by the Student Council were the mixers after the games, student directories, and the selling of the yearbook you are now enjoying. This year, for the first time, the yearbook goal of six hundred books, was reached and passed. Under the able sponsorship of Mrs. Ruby Barber and Mr. D. H. Winn, the Student Council has cer- tainly succeeded in accomplishing the goals set forth in its constitution, namely, to promote better citizenship by encouraging higher scholastic standards, high ideals, and better school spirit. Disfribulivc tfducatiou Distributive Education courses are made available through the school system in order to educate and familiarize students on the various ways of distributing goods to the consumers. Students enrolled in these classes receive working experience through paid, part- time employment, which enables them to obtain the right amount of skill to be a competent worker. To be eligible to enroll in this highly educational class, a student must be the age of sixteen or over, should have a great deal of interest and aptitude for various working fields with which D. E. is connected. The student not only receives credit for class work, but also for the working experience he is obtaining. Some of the activities during the year are: Initiation program, Christmas party, D. E. breakfast, Employer-Employee Banquet, and last, one of the highlights of the year - the State D. E. Nativmzl flnuor Society The Midwest City Chapter of the Honor Society, established in 1949, is a duly authorized and charter ed chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. Being granted membership in the Society is perhaps the greatest honor that the school can bestow on its students as it indicates excellence, well-rounded personalities, considering as the basis for selection of members the qualities of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. The local chapter maintains the very high scholastic requirement of a 3. 6 grade point average for the three-year senior high school course, with the additional requirement that every semester's work con- sist of a minimum of four full credits, solid subjects in addition to any activities carried.
