There were 11 juniors in student council, 30 in pep club, 17 in the band, and 38 in mixed chorus. The officers and members have worked hard on all their class projects. Some of these activities were: selling tickets and acting in the Junior Class Play, Stage Door , sponsoring the school Christmas danceg and giving the traditional Junior- Senior Prom, Each of these activities was a huge success. The sponsors have been unequalled in support of their class. These in- cluded Mr. and Mrs. Lyon, Mrs. Van Dusen, Mrs. Looper, Mr. Rounds, Mr Jones, Mr. Gregory, Mrs. Hansen, Mrs. Barber, and Mr. Herford, To these teachers, we give praise. These boys have been playing together since junior high school and have a very impressive record for all of these years, which was climaxed by their 9-2 record this year. The Bombers begun the '53 campaign by smothering Chandler, 39-7 . They then marched over Edmond, 62-32, Putman City was next on the list, they went down 25-6. The Bombers battered Purcell 48-0. Barnsdall came to Midwest City to participate in our homecoming game and went home on the short end of a 38-0 score. Henryetta was next on the list and they bowed to our strong Bomber crew 41-7 . Pauls Valley went down 37-0. The Bomber downed Southeast 24-6. We finished our regular schedule with a 59-20 score over John Marshall. Twenty boys received letters for their efforts this year. Eight Seniors eamed places on the All-District team for District 3-A. Don Nelson and Joe Phillips won Honorable Mention on the South All-State team. Bill Krisher was placed on the South All-State team. He willrepresent Midwest City in the All-State game next fall. BOMBERS TACKLE TOUGHEST SEASON The 1953-54 Bomber Basketball Team, playing the most difficult schedule in the history of the school never- theless compiled the best won-lost record Q21-'71 of any previous Bomber team, Sparked by Senior, Marvin Bones Pilgrim, Sam Sanborn, and Ray White, this year's cagers won champion- ship trophies at the Gaymon Festival and the Southeast Invitational Tournament. Although placing second in the Midland Conference, the Bombers were the only Conference team to defeat Pauls Va11ey's Champions. The Black and Gold turned this trick in two of the three games between the two teams. The real key to the success of this yearYs.team appeared to be the fierce competitive spirit displayed by the boys themselves. Coach John Pratts 1953-54 Bomber team will long be remembered for its hustle and desire to win. These factors combined with a tenacious man-to-man defense and a smooth functioning pattem of offense vaulted the Bombers into 6th place in the final Daily Oklahoma rating of AA schools. The Student Council of Midwest City High School began the year of 1953 with an all- junior officer slate, elected the previous spring. The Council, for the first time, was required to hold its meetings after school and only those who were willing to spend extra time and those who had a genuine interest in their school, ran in the election of members. Through the able leadership of the president, Tommy Hall, and sponsor, Mrs, Barber, the Council accomplish- ed many important and beneficial deeds for the school. Included in the 1953-54 Student Council's routine activi- ties were mixers after ball games, football homecoming, annual sales, and sponsoring class dances. There were several outstanding special projects this year. For the first time, an accurate, neatly printed student directory was published by the Council. Courtesy Week was observed just preceding Career Day, During the month of March the Council invited the Southeast Senior High School Student Council to a luncheon and pro- gram, for the purpose of encouraging inter-school spirit. This was a very enjoyable occasion.
