When we, the Senior Class of 1980, took on the responsibility of dedicating this year- book, we looked for someone who has guided us along the road to success, given time to school activities, and someone who even became a friend. Words and space alone will never adequately convey the sincere appreciation for your understand- ing and services. You have won the grati- tude of every student. As our last year is a memorable one, we hope that you will long remember yours as you flip through the pages of this book. Therefore, to you, Mr. Willard Locklear we dedicate the 1980 Raider. Into it we put long hours of hard work. We especially hope that it captures the most cherished moments of this school year. Life at Midway - the joy, friendship, sadness, success - can only be remem- bered by those of us who experienced it. As we, the seniors of 1980, leave Midway may this edition of the Raider always re- fresh our memories of 1980. May each page bring a laugh, a tear, and a warm feeling for being able to share in this school year. 3 Annual Staff Editor - Henrietta Blackmang Co-Editor - David Smith Advisor - Mrs. Lillian Bruce ff Q4 '55 y Q .- ,3? 441 --wif , T'f,l'ii I l awk ff F lN tiring. , LQ? u 4 ,, I +V . But this in no way indicates that Regina is a one-talent person. She has been very active in many clubs and has held of- fices as well in them. A Morehead and Gov- ernor's School nominee demonstrate that Re- gina is one of the top students in her class academically. Because of Regina's contribu- tions to her school and community, she is truly an outstanding individual. During her four years at Midway, Henrietta Blackman has earned recognition as being one of the top academic students. Her ac- complishments in academics have not pre- vented Henrietta from taking an active part in many aspects of school life. She has traveled with the ball teams as manager and statis- tician. Involvement with several clubs has also been H8DfiBttH,S trademark. Her atten- dance at Governor's School was the acme of success for any student. With all these at- tainments, Henrietta is indeed one of the out- standing students at Midway. -47 f ' mf'4-., Even though David Smith has been at Mid- way for only one and one-half years, his ac- complishments have been noted by students and faculty. He has excelled in all areas of academics, and he has gained the respect of Midway's citizens by his willingness to al- ways help others who are having difficulties with school work or extra-curricular ac- tivities. David is certainly an outstanding person by having attained so much recogni- tion in such a short period of time. View Who would be the outstanding writer, per- former, and student at Midway? Vickie Wil- liams is all three in one individual. She has received several writing awards in different areas of competition. Her stunning perfor- mance and singing in the Miss Midway Pageant were sensational. Vickie has also maintained a high scholastic average along with all her other activities in various clubs and offices. Students and faculty recognize without difficulty the outstanding qualities of Vickie. awww Always quiet, neat, dependable, and well- mannered are qualities which stand out in Carol Iackson. Having these characteristics, Carol is recognized by students and faculty as a leader and worker. Involved in many ac- tivities, Carol has demonstrated that she does all things well, and she never does a second- rate job on anything. In addition to these qualities, Carol has maintained a high scholastic average in all her subjects. It is un- derstandable how Carol is one of the out- standing students at Midway. f? When most people think of Gary Williams, they think of his expertise in football. His All-Conference recognition for the past two years testify to his skills in football. However, Gary's extraordinary talent as a comedian and singer have become well-known in the last couple of years. His Richard Pryor imitations have been especially popular with students and faculty. Along with these talents, Gary has been involved with several clubs and has held offices in these clubs indicating his leadership capabilities. Midway also recog- nizes Gary for being dependable, always ready to be a friend, and an outstanding per- son in all aspects of student life. 4 Qflfayfwf Although quiet and well-mannered, Michael Naylor has proved himself to be an aggressive athlete. Participation in football and baseball for four years has made him one of the top athletes at Midway, and his selection to the All-Conference football team has given him recognition from other schools as well. His outstanding qualities have not been limited to athletics. Michael has been active in vari- ous clubs throughout his years at Midway, and he has earned the admiration of the school and community by his reserved man- ner but uncompromising standards. Telling jokes, playing ball, having a good time, being a part of everything. Who does all these things and still maintains one of the highest scholastic averages in her class? None other could except jackie Gilbert. Being president of several clubs, serving as captain of the basketball team, representing Midway as its D.A.R. Good Citizen, and a Morehead nominee are indications of the dependable and leadership qualities in Iackie. Seldom does a school have such an outstanding stu- dent, athlete, and participant. 3 t . f ' 1 f Q,-, ,ff , K I , QSM?
