The Panther Band In Action Don Filgo and Larry Pierce directed the largest band Midway High had ever seen. The band had 174 participating members. The marching season was a busy one with the pep rallies and the Fri- day night Bicentennial-oriented half -time shows which often received standing ovations from the crowd. The marching season ended with the UIL marching contest in which the band received a I , the highest rating possible. The band partic- ipated in the AstroWorld Marching contest the following weekend.

Girl's Volleyball Team, South Zone Champs Brenda Van Patten, Debbe Jones, Robin Evans, Doris DeFore, Kathy Hill, Cheryl Rusk, Virginia Anderson, Mrs. Walker, Tami Mayberry, Julie Dulin, Linda Tapp, Jane Blancett, Jackie Taylor, Lori Sptizer. Fall brought something new to Midway: Volleyball season! Pre- viously a spring sport, Volleyball was for the first time held in the fall. With the helpful supportive fans, the Pantherettes main- tained a season record of 15 wins and 5 losses. In her first year of coaching, Karen Walker led the Panther- ettes to the South Zone Champi- onship. Hopes of a District win were shattered when defeat came from the Waxahachie Maidens. The Junior Varsity ended their season with 7 wins and 6 losses: proving that the future is bright for Midway Volleyball. Excitement spreads throughout the Pantherettes as they obtain another victory.
