This cer- tainly holds true for the last homecoming game and corona- tion at Rice Field. The week was a busy one for all the students. Each class and club was busy building floats for the parade. Thursday night, as well as Friday afternoon, excite- ment mounted as the cheerlead- ers held pep rallies at the bonfire and in the gym. All the students were anxiously waiting for the coronation. Homecoming 1975 was very beautiful and exciting. Everyone left with treasured memories of the last homecoming and corona- tion to be held at Rice Field. The Spirit The last pep rally was a sad time for the Seni as well as the Juniors. OIS The 1975-'76 cheerleaders made a great contribution to the spirit and morale of the school. Enthusiasm at pep rallies and games, special days, and an overall spirited outlook contributed to successful sports' sea- sons. Kim Pelty served as head cheerleader of the varsity squad and Liz Smith for the junior varsity . Front: Tricia Parkinson, Tami Clifton, Debbie Brown, Back: Kelli Mayberry, Kandy Nix , Liz Smith . Bringing The Spirit In Besides the cheerleaders, spirit is boosted by a school mascot, Junior Eric Gillerup, and the Panther Patrol, a new organiza- tion that rings the Victory Bell at all sports events. The band had 174 participating members. The marching season was a busy one with the pep rallies and the Fri- day night Bicentennial-oriented half -time shows which often received standing ovations from the crowd. The marching season ended with the UIL marching contest in which the band received a I , the highest rating possible. The band partic- ipated in the AstroWorld Marching contest the following weekend. Fall brought something new to Midway: Volleyball season! Pre- viously a spring sport, Volleyball was for the first time held in the fall. With the helpful supportive fans, the Pantherettes main- tained a season record of 15 wins and 5 losses. In her first year of coaching, Karen Walker led the Panther- ettes to the South Zone Champi- onship. Hopes of a District win were shattered when defeat came from the Waxahachie Maidens. The Junior Varsity ended their season with 7 wins and 6 losses: proving that the future is bright for Midway Volleyball. Excitement spreads throughout the Pantherettes as they obtain another victory. Midway students celebrated Christmas with a school assembly and a fund-raising project. A choir from the Waco School for the Deaf entertained at the assembly. Santa Claus was good to deserving students such as Skipper Roberts who received a gift certificate for a haircut. The greatest class at Midway, the Junior Class, was named according to pennies collected for the Anthony Cervantes Fund. The school contributed 615400 . The Key Club provided the tree for the main foyer and con- ducted a can food campaign for the needy. Mr. And Miss MHS Barbara Anderson jackie Resch Senior Favorites M .mf 5 e 2 2 , iss! .
