BEST DRESSED Y I .Ilrnmy Hall Reba Thom 'N' .IQ MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Jennm Hartley Dlclc Berr1er 8- HSOYI D MOST ORIGINAL or1s Surratt Bryce Leonard A C MOST ATHLEIIC Nancy Beck Jimmy Lanier MASS Pllllllllllll My day s work finished I relaxed 1n bed While ly1ng there I se lected a book from the bookcase beside my bed It was my high school annual Looking through lt I began to wonder what had happened to all my wonderful warmhearted high school classmates I closed my eyes for Just a moment and was soon drifting off on a cloud of dreams I was driving down Main Street of Welcome North Carolina my old home town when a car approached me There was a patrol car right be hind it He blew h15 s1ren and the car in front stopped It was Mrs Wayne Nifong and Mrs Ray Donald Everhart the former Jennie Hartley and Doris Surratt and their children The patrolman looked familiar none other than Bobby Sink He had stopped Jennie for speeding As I drove on it was soon lunch time I noticed a neat cafe and stop ped there for lunch As the waitress approached my table I saw that lt was Carthena Merritt She and Donese Tussey owned the cafe They were doing a wonderful business While waiting for my lunch Ipicked up a copy of the Welcome Times and read that Mike Koontz was winning much fame with his paintings of beautiful women but he is still a bachelor I also read that Donald Brewer had just been made a colonel in the U S Army Putting down the paper I noticed a lurnber truck stopping in front of the cafe Jimmy Hall got out of it He came inside and sat down at my table He told me that he and Bobby Davis had bought a lumber business After lunch I decided to look around town next door to the cafe was the new fire house and Bobby Beck the fire chief was seated out front I stopped to chat awhile and learned that Jimmy Jordan Jack Everhart and Jimmy Lanier were playing professional basketball in New York and were winning world wide fame Bobby also told me that Welcome had a television station of which Leon Cline was manager I decided to stop to see the station When larrived the program Best then West was being produced It starred Roy West singing and playing the piano The next program was a cooking program It showed Nancy Beck West giving one of her famous candy demonstrations Leavmg the station I met Betty Craver still skipping through life She was working in the 0ff1Ce of the station still carefree and gay Going back to my car I drove on my Way I notlced the fuel gauge on my car showed empty l stopped at a garage and who were the owners but Bob Essick and Henry Adkins They also deal in used Ford cars As I drove off my car seemed to be shaking and someone was call mg me I looked up It was only my room mate Nancy Grubb calling me to get up and dress to go to the office where we worked She told me she had called the plumber Robert Thomason to come to fix the bathroom s leaky faucet As I entered my office at the county building Bryce Leo nard caretaker of the City Lake entered He was look1ng for my boss Dick Berrier county forestry officer to help him plant some trees around the lake Oh' Oh' Here comes the boss, Nancy and I had better start typmg those four hundred letters we must type today I was satisfied the class of 57 had made a big success in this great world Reba Thomason Class Prophet but they were having a tough time competing with Wayne Nifong.
