Jones, USAF, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Rear Admiral Robert E. Kirksey, Commander Task Force Seventy, walk on the reviewing ramp before the Marine Honor Guard. General Jones and his party toured Midway and received various briefings. They were in the region to discuss security and matters of mutual concern with other countries before they visit- ed Midway and units of Task Force Seventy. 19-20 October 1980 - Mr. Charles Murphy fleftj and Mr. Derek Van Schaaf fsecond from leftj, both staff members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, pose with Captain Carmichael and Lieutenant Colonel Hirsch, their escort, after watching flight ops from the bridge. While other carriers behind us lag, The t'Mighty Midway waves the flag. So off we sail on the ocean blue, A trusty ship and a salty crew. Now inport for an ice cold beer, A bit of refreshment and relaxing cheer. But trouble is brewing in far off lands, The fun is over inform all hands. The Midway is chosen to answer the call, The reason is clear, we're the best of all. So weigh the anchor and off we sail. The world is relaxed, the Midway won't fail. Now is the waiting for something to break, America's honor is at stake. For days upon end we sit and we wonder, Will those people retract their blunder. The other carriers relax, inport as they rest, There's comfort in knowing we'll answer the There is no rest for the big FORTY-ONE. We do the work and they do the fun.
