This year was by no means a disappointment for the girls gymnastics team, but considering that they will lose no seniors to graduation next year will really be a year of great promise. The team's overall record was 8-4, that is real good considering they had many injuries throughout the year. Most Valuable Player Award was given to Jennifer Ring. 105 Varsity Baseball Is Moving Up The Varsity Baseball team finished an up and down season with a 9-13 overall mark. They finished as sectional runner-ups after bowing out to seeded North Olmsted. Don Vesling and Robin Moss lead an improving pitching staff. The team also had a very balanced and productive batting attack. Scott Dunn received All-Lakeland honors at 2nd base and Tom Staysniak received honorable men- tion in centerfield. Robin Moss also threw a no-hitter. With many talented players at the freshman, sophomore and junior levels the baseball program looks to be moving upward. The team used the successful formula of pitching, hitting and defense to put together their fine record. The pitching department was led by Dave Gilchrist and Barry Smith. Mr. Root, adviser to the group, says he wouldn't be surprised to see racquetball become a varsity sport because of its popularity and the number of places to play racquetball in the area. Intramural Racquetball is played on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school during the fall (when football is over and no other sport has started). The group was mostly designed for fun and the beginning racquetball player. Mem- bers this year included J.V.S. students. Intramural Racquetball is sponsored by the Mid-Court Racquetball Club, where even non-members of the club get re- duced court fees and rental fees for being a member of Intramural Racquetball. 120 SUOINflP Juniors 8. Publications Holds First Racquetball Tourney Final.... Sayers! Rymers! Defeat! Victo- ry! That’s the way it was over the Christ- mas Vacation 1981; The Publications Racquetball Tourney. That was the fun, but the serious side to Publications is do- ing the yearbook. The yearbook was pret- ty well divided among the staff. Carol Motta, along with Mary Jo Motyka, did the Senior section. Ann Thomas did the Juniors, Mary Jo did the Sophomores, and Sherri Howser did the Freshman. Jackie Hayes did the Advertising section. Gregg Miller and Steve Sayers took care of the sports sections. Mark Farrar's ma- jor work was photography. All-in-all it was a good year, and we wish Good-Luck to Mr. Rymers and next year’s staff. Clockwise starting with upper right: Our dedicated and extremely talented editor, Carol Motta. Gregg Miller takes a break from his typing to explain Ein- stein's Theory of Relativity. Fashion model Maryjo Motyka. Sherri Howser singing at the typewriter. 164 Starting clockwise, in the upper right: Jackie Hayes copying someone else's layout. Mark Farrar looking at pictures for the cheerleader layout. Journalism- period 2. Journalism- period 5. Ann Thomas with her big mouth open, as usual! Steve Sayers working hard as ever. Rick Rymers pretends he’s Lou Grant. 165 OWE, Keyboard Club Row 1 (L-R): B. Lint. L. Pember. L. Jones. L. Hvizd. derson. R. Lovejoy. T Husk. J. Fuchs. B. Leach. R R. Wilmoth. B. Blackwell. Being editor of the yearbook was a good one. It was alot of hard work but I really enjoyed being a part of this publication. I would like to thank my staff for doing such a great job. A special thanks to Mark for listening to me and being such a great psychologist. I would also like to thank Denise for keeping the darkroom clean. And finally thanks to Mr. Rymers, for making all this possible. I wish next year’s staff lots of luck and I hope you enjoy being in Publications as much as I did. I would like to wish the class of 1982 all the success and happiness in the future 208
