She is doing an excellent job and we are proud to have the only lady Superin- tendent in the state. e 0 I Prmclpal s Message There is no greater challenge than that now facing the Midvale School. Our education must not be found wanting in any degree or measure when the call comes for good citizens. You are about to leave---never to return as students. Our efforts have been aimed at no other goal but to help you to become alert, adap- tive persons and to help you make wise choices. The life you live lies in your ability to add to these choices. Your years here will be fondly remembered in the future. As you leave you carry with you the attitudes, skills and appreci- ations you have acquired. Guard these well and cherish them for- ever. The foundations you have built will continue to grow into a firm character with intelligent convictions and the admirable quallties of a good citizen with God as your guiding star. Class of 1958, we congratulate you on your excellent work. May good luck, happiness, and success in every adventure be yours. i Dedication We, the class of SB , in appreci- ation of her guidance throughout the Junior :nd Senior years, do hereby dedi- cate th s edition of -Thi Rgger, to Mrs. Vicki Benzin. In this group was Judy Glasacock, Molly Clelland, Violet Roberts, Bertha Jacks, Larry Hornlng, Galen Preston, Galen Lewis, Milford Potter, Gary Garner, David Williams, Jay Williams, Victor Craig, Kent Craig, Bob Finke, and Jack Taylor. Initiation, the return party, movies, a candy machlne, and a birthday party highlighted the year. David Willi ms moved to Rigglns. Starting our Sophomore year, we had fourteen members. Laurence Bruce came at the end of the first semester and Kaye Anderson joined us early in the spring to make a class of sixteen at the end of the year. He chose Mr. Willis Rea as class advisor. We had several parties during the year. Our Junior year started with a class of seventeen. Donald Fuchs and Maxine Hillia s helped swell the crowd for a while. However, after a few weeks Donald, Laurence Bruce, and Jay Williams quit school to work, and Maxine quit to get married, leaving only thirteen members to finish out the year. The first event was Fresh an initiation and Bonfire followed by a Thanksgiving Sock-hop for the entire school which was a great success. All through March we toiled and on the 22nd of March were rewarded with an excellent performance of 'Look Out L1zz1e,' directed by Mrs. Benain, Class Advisor. Then to top it all off, we gave the Seniors a nice Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet on May M, with 'Young Loven as the theme. This, our last year has been full of interesting things. Elenore and Hill Atkinson joined us from Boise and Mrs. Benain reeu ed duties as Advisor. First, we helped initiate the Freshmen. Then on November 22, we put on the Senior play entitled 'Pleased ta Meetcha.' This Spring, all the Seniors had a grand time on the Sneak and the Juniors gave us a lovely Pram and Banquet, using 'Moments to Remember' as the theme. The Senior Class chose turquoise and black as the class colors and the carnatlon as class flower. Our motto, 'Push, pull, or get out of the way' is quite appropriate for our class. On May 23, fifteen happy Seniors will march up the isle to receive diplomas and go out into the world to become citizens of this great country. I, wffs 23512. a J' Q' wwe E96 eafbr , , ,.. Looking ahead to, let's say, the year 1978 without even the aid of a crys- tal ball, I can see them well established, each in his own choice of endeavor. There is Milford Potter under the blazing limelights making the teenagers faint as he yodels his rendition of the latest hit song. By then, Milford ought to have made western singin' as popular as nRock n' roll' is now. Galen Lewis is also in Hollywood, and he has succeeded very well. He has now replaced Hr. Rook Hudson and is on his way to squeeze out Tab Hunter. Galen is suffering un- der an unhappy delusion though---he thinks he can make 'Fraule1n' popular again. He is trying now for the fifth time in as many years. Getting away from the movie colony, let's go farther East to the wheat country of the great Midwest. Kansas 1sn't Kansas anymore. It is now known as the 'Finke Farm.' Bob owns it fro border to border, and is dickering for Texas but Kent and Victor won't sell. It's the only place big enough to hide all the Craig whiskey stills. It's just great how well all my old classmates are doing. Judy Glasscook is over in Washington, D. C. as America's first woman president. Some people say she talked her way into office, but nobody who really knows her believes lt. A sad thing appears as I gaze into the future of Violet Roberts and William Atkinson. They were chosen, because of their superior intellect and courage, to make the first trip to the moon. But by 1972 there were so many Russian Sput- nike floating around that they collided unavoidably with one of them. Molly Clelland is the world's greatest scientist. She has discovered a way to cure people of cancer, television, the co mon cold, and how to make a husband love his mother-ln-law. Her most important invention is still in the experimen- tal stage, however. She is trying to discover how to make a cup of coffee her husband can drink. Elenore Atkinson and Larry Horning have gone into business together because they always got along so well. Larry designs the latest fashions and Elenore models them. This way Larry gets to tell the women of the world what to wear and Elenore makes all the men glad to buy it. Galen Preston was running away from the internal revenue officers one day when he tripped over a peculiar piece of rock. He took :lt to a chemist and dis- covered lt was pure uranium. He filed a claim on a whole vein of the stuff and made enough money to pay off all his back taxes. He even had enough left to build e fortified castle on Hitt Mountain where he sits all day long, afraid to leave lest he run into the clutches of the hundreds of women who have matrimon- ial designs on him. Bertha Jacks, I see, has become Amer1ca's most famous artist. She is rich and can draw anything, including handsome fortune hunters. Bertha resists all suitor with commendable valor in spite of their most urgent pleas, and travels periodically to Hitt Mountain to paint scenery--or so she says. If you should turn on your new super atomic television set some Autumn Sun- day in 1972 you might get to see the Ea:-th's Football team in a tough game with Mars, Venus, or some other top team in the Milkyway conference. And most prob- ably you would cheer yourself hoarse as you watched Earth score time after time with the splendid running abilities of Jack Taylor. Some people say he's scared because he runs the other direction sometimes, but one thing is certain---give him the ball and nobody can catch him. Hell, that's the way it goes. The old gang have all really made a name for themselves. It kinda makes a man feel good to pick up a newspaper and see their names, then turn around and say to his eight grsndkids, Heck, I knew all those people when they were my neighbors here in Hidvale. And to think that I was the one voted 'Most likely to succeed' of all 1 Hand writ this day by Gary Garner Senior Class Play 1 C ,m..., INA, A Three Act Mystery comedy 'K ,139 43551: , l ,. In completing this task the Juniors and Seniors helped them. Friday afternoon the school halls and the foot- ball field were cluttered with babes in diapers, a Santa Claus and even the devil himself. Whenever coming upon an upper- classman a freshman would bow three times and recite a poem of affection. That evening the fr-osh performed gymdrastics for the benefit of their older classmates. However, some had passions for raw eggs and would not sing for anything else. In spite of all pushing and pulling Santa Claus, alias Nancy Sherman, could not get through the tires. Other freshmen ate worms and walked the plank. They enjoyed themselves so much that they invited all to a return party in the gymnasium.
