OUR COACHING STAFF These three fellows coached their respective teams to very fine records during the 1957-58 season. The combined total of the four teams up to this date -is 629 wins, 11 losses. Pete piloted the Varsity and Reserve squads to vetry successful seasons. 'I'he Varsity having a record of 18 wins and only 2 losses up to this date. The-Reserves closed their season with a record of 14 wins, 4 losses. Burt Beaber coached his Freshman team to a very impressive record of 17 wins, 1 loss. Bob Riley did a fine job in coaching his 7th-8th Grade team to a record of 13-4. BASKETBALL 1957-58 MIDVALE VS. AUGUSTA On the night of November 22, Midvale the county champs, met Augusta. In this contest there was no hard work to be done, everyone on the Varsity and the Reserves played. Leading scorers were: Dave Belknap with 13, Russ Hobart with 12, Ron Breniser with 12. Score: 91-34. MIDVALE VS. WEST LAFAYEITE On November 29, Midvale went to West Lafayette for their second game of the season. A hard fought game, the score being 75-71 West Lafayette. Russ Hobart was high with 25, Tom Krocker with 21. MIDVALE VS. TUSKY On December 3, Midvale met Tusky on our home floor. Although a good game the Hrst quarter, Midvale went on to win. Score: 80-47. Scoring honors were held by Russ Hobart with 23, Tom Krocker with 14, and Gary Carruthers with 17. MIDVALE VS. STRASBURG On December 10, Strasburg was hot and went on to win by a score of 80-77. Leading scorers were: Tom Krocker with 22 and Dave Belknap with 20. MIDALE VS. TUSKY VALLEY On December 13, Midvale took their second trip out of town to meet Tusky Valley. This being the first league game for the Devils. Midvale came home on the top end of a hard fought game. Score: 58-49. High point men were: Tom Krocker with 18, Russ Hobart with 14, Bill Housel 17. MIDVALE VS. GNADEN On December 17, Midvale traveled to Gnaden, Mid- vale winning by a score of 63-53. High scorers were: Tom Krocker with 22, Russ Hobart with 17, Gary Carrothers with 12. MIDVALE VS. STONECREEK On December 20, Midvale played their second league game. Midvale won by a score of 77-59. High for the evening was Tom Krocker with 29. MIDVALE VS. PORT On December 27, Port came to Midvale. It was a run- away with everyone seeing action. Score: 105-68. Russ Hobart was high with 35, Ron Breniser with 26. MIDVALE VS. TUSKY On January 3, Midvale went to Tusky for a league game. It was a hard fought battle with Midvale com- ing out on top 88-76. MIDVALE VS. BEACH CITY On January 7, Midvale met Beach City at Midvale. Once again it wasn't much of a battle as Midvale came out on top, 70-40. High scorer was Tom Krocker, MIDVALE VS. SCIO On January 14, Midvale traveled to Scio. Midvale came home with another win, 57-47. High was Tom Krocker, with 18 points. MIDVALE VS. GNADEN On January 17, Gnaden came to Midvale for one of the roughest games of the season. Midvale won by a score of 82-73. High for the evening was Tom Krocker, with 21, Russ Hobart, with 19. with 16 points. 44 MIDVALE VS. CONNOTION VALLEY On January 21, Midvale traveled to Connotton Valley for a non-league game and came home still unbeaten in nine games. Score 71-60. Midvale reliwifled unbeaten in league play and poked well on their way toward a league crown. Score.52-44. DIIDVALE VS GARAWAY On January 28, Garaway came to the home of the Big Blue to try their chances at giving us our first league defeat. But they, like all the rest, failed. Score 54-46. MIDVALE VS. PORT On January 31, Midvale traveled to Port Washington for the game that gave them the crown of the county league. Score 84-42. Russ Hobart was high with 20 points. MIDVALE VS. DENNISON On February 4, Midvale took a short trip to Dennison and added another win to the list. Score 71-55. MIDVALE VS. BALTIC On February 7, Midvale played their last league game and also the last game of the season. Final score 76-63. The season closed with 16 wins and 2 defeats and an undefeated league championship. COUNTY TOURNAMENT 19158 MIDVALE VS. PORT On February 13, 1958, Midvale played their iirst coun- ty tournament game against Port Washington, at Dover Memorial Hall. The game was a run-away, with Mid- vale winning, 71-42. High point men were Russ Hobart, Dave Belknap, and Vince DeNoi, all having scored 12 points. MIDVALE VS. GARAWAY On February 20, 1958, Midvale met Garaway. It was a pretty tough game, but Midvale came out on top 69-68. The high scorer for the evening was Dave Belk- nap with 25 points. MIDVALE VS. GNADEN On February 22, 1958, Midvale met Gnaden for the championship game. After playing a tough game Midvale won the championship title by a score of 67-60. Top scorer for the night was Ronnie Breniser with 21 points. On the night of February 22 the Big Blue walked away with most of the trophies. The cheerleaders received a trophy for the best cheerleaders in the county. Pete received the Coach of the Year trophy, which he really deserved. Tom Krocker and Russ Hobart each received trophies for being on the All-County team. Each player also received a gold basketball for being on the winning team of the county tournament.
