C., New Philadelplua I9 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1954, 54 students from Midvale, Roswell, and Goshen gathered at Midvale High School in Room 208. We all hopped in our ,shiny hot rod and began our journey as Freshmen, with Mr. Heskitt as our driver. After our take-off we chose blue and white as our class colors and a red Carnation as our class flower. Then we chose our motto, Our Goal is the Peak of Successg Let Us Climb. Class officers were elected as follows: President- Becky Robbg Vice President-Jim Meeseg Secretary- Bonnie Hobartg Treasurer-Martha Soursg and Class Representative-Don Patterson. Martha Sours and Gaye Tolloti were chosen as major- ettes and Bonnie Hobart reigned as Football Queen's attendant. Becky Robb was selected by the student body to rep- resent our class as one of the cheerleaders. Our first party was the Freshman-Junior party. It was a success. Our candidates for king and queen of May Day were Patsy Mazzy and Jim Meese. Soon after our freshman year came to an end, we all hopped out of our hot rod and spent three month's summer vacation. On September 6, 1955, we gathered in Room 204 to continue our journey, only this time as Sophomores. This year we found Mr. fPeteJ Hilliard at the wheel of our hot rod. With a burst of sparks and a loud roar of duals we took 06 with 37 aboard. We elected class officers as follows: President-Tom Wanosikg Vice President- Don Pattersong Secretary-Patsy Mazzyg Treasurer- Bonnie Hobartg and Class Representative-Jim Meese. Betty Lenarz reigned as Queen attendant this year and Nancy Westhafer was chosen for a majorette. Again we had a three month's summer vacation, then roared back to Room 201 to begin our Junior year. We boarded with 34 and elected class officers. They were: President-Jim Meeseg Vice President-Tom Wanosikg Secretary-Patsy Mazzyg Treasurer-JoAnn Penickg and Class Representative-George Yoder. The class was proud of Russ Hobart when he was one of the first five on the basketball team that went to state. Bonnie Hobart represented our class as cheer- leader. This was the year we were to make money. We had bake sales, sold candy, sold refreshments at ball gamesg and magazines were sold and Christmas cards. We put on the class play, Junior Miss with Mrs. Bowen directing. A We had the honor of attending the annual Junior- Freshman party and enjoyed it very much. Then our long awaited class rings came and we were very happy with them. We chose Etta Reymond as Football Queen attendant this year. Then to finish off the year we gave the Junior-Senior Prom. We used a Rock 8: Roll theme and the gym was transformed like magic and everyone enjoyed the dance. After three montis vacation we then returned again in 1957 realizing that this would be the last time we would roar away in our hot rod. Our ride was almost over. With 29 of us we took off with a bang by electing officers as follows: President--Don Patter- song Vice-President-Patsy Mazzy, Secretary-Bonnie Hobartg Treasurer-Louise Eichelg and Class Repre- sentative-Jim Meese. We started out by getting our Senior pictures taken and then we were rushed by selecting commencement annoimcements, name cards, getting the annual to- gether, planning 'for the Senior trip, selling magazines, and having a bake sale. We were pretty much in a whirl for a few weeks. But then we got used to the idea of being seniors. At the last football game of the season the senior band members were honored during the halftime cer- emonies. The girls-Sally Trachsel, Louise Eichel, Martha Sours, Gaye Tolloti, Nancy Westhafer, and Etta Reymond were presented mums and Donnie Beans, the only boy, was presented with a pen and pencil set. Patsy Mazzy, the senior football cheer- leader, was also presented with a mum. The high school selected Etta Reymond as the Home- coming Queen and she was crowned at the Tusky Valley-Midvale game October 18. Bonnie Hobart was Senior Attendant. We sponsored the dance after the game and it was a huge success. We are now looking forward to the Senior Trip in May, when our destination - graduation-will be reached. When we leave Midvale High School and go out into the world on our own, many happy mem- ories of good times and good friends will go with us. No matter how far we may scatter, or how different our life patterns may be, we will all exeperience the same sentiments when we remember M.I-I.S. Etta Reymond -I i if 35 1 ? The HISI: Cadillac carried our advisor, Mr. Beaber. There were 59 of us to begin our career of four years of high school. We were given the name FreshQmen. The first thing we did was to elect olficers. They were: President-Dave Belknap, Vice-President-Roy Bran- nan, :Secretary-Dianne Belknap, Treasurer-Judy Dupler, Class Representative-Donald Monte. We then selected our motto which was Hard Work Is the Foundation to Success. Our class flower: white carnationg class colors: blue and white. The whole class was very proud of the cheerleaders elected from our class-Mary Varally and Sandra Penick. Another lucky girl was Carolyn Dillon who was chosen to be Freshman queen attendant. The boys didn't take a back seat either! They turned out in large numbers for all sports and proved to be very good! We held a Freshman-Junior party which was one of the best ever seen by M. H. S. In the fall of 1956 we again climbed in our fleet of gold Cadillacs with Mr. Beaber back as our advisor. We elected officers for this wonderful year and they were: President-Gary Carrothersg Vice President- Richard Mackeyg Secretary-Judy Duplerg Treasurer- Mary Varallyg Class Representative-Dave Belknap. We were very surprised when the roll was called to iind that our class. had lost 6 students, leaving 53 of us to carry on as Sophomores. Cheerleaders were elected and we were proud of the one from our class: Mary Varally. She was also elected to be the Sophomore queen attendant at the home-coming game. The bo s again were outstand- ing in sports. The usual Soplllomore-Senior party was held and enjoyed immensely! Students chosen to be on the Honor Society were: Diane Belknap, Judy Dupler, Nancy Hobart, and Gary Carrothers. , With a fleet of '57 Cadillacs we entered our third year of high school on September 3, 1957. This year we were given the name Juniors, This year we had- much to look forward to. Such as thc Junior-Senior Prom, all selling privileges, receiving our class rings, and many other exciting things. First of all we elected officers. They are: President -Richard Mackeyg VicefPresident-Tom Krockerg Secretary-Linda Carlisle, Treasurer-Diane Belknap, Class Representative-Larry Reichman. The cheerleaders from our class are: Linda Carlisle, Mary Varally, Judy Dupler and Sandra Penick. The boys are also doing very well in sports. Queen at- tendant was Diane Belknap. We have one more year of high school and we're.going to make the best of it! The Junior High team was made up of 7-8-9 grade boys some of which had never played football. But with the help of Coach Riley they h-ad eleven men on the Held at the first game and as the score showed at the end of the game the Newcomerstown Junior High knew they were there. ' Coach Beaber likes the idea of Junior High Football very much because it gives him a chance to look the crop over before they become Varsity Players. BASEBALL FOR 1957 Midvale vs Tusky Midvale opened their 1957 season by playing host to Tusky. The game only went four innings and then was called off because it was too cold. No score was made in the four innings but our center fielder Charles Colletti had the only hit for the Blue Devils. Midvale vs Strasburg On, this trip Midvale came home with a victory well in her favor with a score of 12 to 3 with Lon- nie Wolfe doing the pitching and only allowed 6 hits and 3 runs. While Midvale was collecting 10 hits, Coleltti, Wolfe, Demattio, and Benedum all acquired 2 apiece. Midvale vs Gnaden April 22, 1957 The strong arm of Larry Clark of Gnaden was the big trouble in this game because he sat 13 of our men down swinging and only allowed 7 hits with Wolfe and Fulp accounting for four of the seven. So with pitching like this Midvale had to take the back seat of an 8 to 4 loss for the first time of the season. Midvale vs Port With our ace Lonnie Wolfe doing the pitching for the Blue Devils, it was an easy victorv, with the score 16 to 1 and Lonnie only allowed 3 hits. And the stick men for the day were Demattio, Krocker argl Fulp who had 2 hits out of three trips to the p te. Midvale vs Berlin This being the last game in the Sectional tomna- ment before going into the District, Midvale had to play host to Berlin at Sugarcreek. And beating this team meant a trip to Columbus for the Re- gional tourney. But as the story goes Midvale played hard right down until the last out in the 10th But we came out on the short end of the list with a 6 'oo 4 loss. Uhrichsville. 84 PROPH ECY Here it is 1983, and I am attending the 25th re- union of the class of 1958, in New York City. As I looked around I heard Don Beans telling some others about his job as President of the Hot-Rods Association. I decided to get into the conservation to find out what a few of my other former class- mates were doin . B As we were talking Louise Eichel qMrs. Willard Desseckerj complimented -me on my hair style and I told her I had it done at the Midvale Beauty Shop. She was really amazed when I told her it was operated by three of our old class- mates: Joyce DeMattio, Patsy Many, and Nancy Westhafer. When I went to get some of the delicious food sent from Norma Fantin and Sally Trachel's restaurant, I bumped into Betty Lenarz, she told me she was happily married with seven kids. Atfer the reunion Betty invited me to spend the night with her. She had a large estate in New York, which was very beautiful. Betty agreed to take me downtown and show me around the next day. As we were walking past the hospital she told me that JoAnn Penick was head nurse there. We went into a drugstore to get a sundae and guess who waited on us None other than Sandra Weaver. While we were eating our sundaes, Gaye Tolloti walked in and joined us. She told us she was co-owner of a dental office and that business was ve ood. TY 8 As we were window shopping we met Etta Rey- mond KMrs. Jerry Kohlj and she invited us to spent the evening with her at the Latin Quarters, which was owned by Dave Porky Feister. So we went to the Latin Quarters that evening. The dinner was delicious and the music was just out of this world. We were curious to know who the bandleader was and Etta said it was non-other than the famous George Yoder. He. also lad Jim Scott featured as the star singer. Jun had toured all over the country with the band and has made quite a name for himself. . Minda Edie came in and we invited her to join us. She told us that her law firm in Chicago was doing very well and that Edna Gartrell was her bookkeeper. She was sorry she cou1dn't attend the reunion. She wanted to know how some of the others were doing now that they were out of school. I told her that Lonnie Fulp was head coach at Midvale University and Russ Hobart was playing pro-basketball with the N. Y. Knicker- bockers. After we left the Latin Quarters we decided to pay a late visit with Clinton LeMasters who owned a huge dairy farm in upper N. Y. State. The next day I decided to retum home and while I was driving along, my car stopped, and it was just my luck that it happened close to the Monte and Gibson Garage . They had the car fixed in no time at all. Right next to the garage was a used car lot owned by Duffy Stafford and Ronnie Ti- nor. I decided, before I returned home, I would like to have a souvenir to take with me. I went to this huge souvenir shop, and guess who was operating it! Don Patterson, Jim Meese, and Tom Wanosik. They had a lot of unusual and humorous articles. Finally I was home. I was so tired after the long ride, so our good neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hobart invited Lonnie and I over for dinner.
