MIDLAND WINS FIRST PREIIM IN 26 YEARS The Midland Middies set the stage by defeating Jasonville 44- 38 with Walter Talpas taking scoring honors by hitting 29 points. In the tournament finale Saturday night, however, the story was different,,as Paul Stone, Greene County's leading individual scorer, collected 45 points as the Midland Middies won a sizzling double-overtime decision from the Clay City Eels, inthe Clay City Prelim of the Valley Tournament. The Middies grabbed the lead and held it for the first three quar- ters of play only to lose it at 41 to 40 early in the fourth period. The windup of the specified 32-minute playing was packed with drama. The Middies trailed by two points and the clock had almost ticked the final second when Stone was fouled by one of the Eels. With no seconds showing on the clock Cmeaning that only a fraction of a second was leftl, Stone fired two shots through the hoop from the 15-foot line to deadlock the scores. In the first overtime, the Middies again trailed by two points, with seven seconds left, when a re- serve, Tim Hays, tied the score again. In the second bonus period, however, Stone collected all six of his team's points, to sew up the victory.
