Semor Class Prophecy As the tram sped out of Chlcago I settled my self m a comfortable loungmg cha1r Nlght was closmg ln and great shadows wele everxvthere I guess I must have dozed for my mmd began to wonder Whxle the tram went glldmg along sweet strams of muslc floated toward me I saw befole me a large audlence llstemng bxeathlessly to a lovely tenor and alto duet sung by Elmel Blant on and Mary Cooksey A sparkle caught my eye and I saw that she wore a dlamond weddmg lmg so I judged they were husband and wlfe Then m a clear d1st1nct tone I heard Elmer say May the Lord watch between Thee and me whxle we are absent one from another Then I knew that Elmer had attained hlS goal a m1n1ster of the gospel For a moment the sound of the tram whlstle dlsturbed my thoughts Then I began to see a It I saw two people m whlte unlforms and I knew I was m a hospltal The two nurses were trylng to change the sheet on the bed where a s1ck man was lylng As I came closer I saw they vtere none other than Vlrglnla Rutledge and Vera Beadle After due pulhng and tugglng at the sheet the s1ck man rose to a S1t'f'lg posrtlon and the sheet was taken from the bed I saw the S1Ck man was Bert Drlscoll who was ln the h0SpltHl due to a foot xnjury recelved whlle closmg the door of hxs twenty four hour SEFVICG Up Town Garage Lafayette Indxana The plcture grew famter In lnstead came a new scene It seemed to me a weddmg march was bemg played I saw heme a small assembly whxch was wxtnessxng the unlon ln Holy Bonds of Matrlmony surprlsmg as It seemed Everett Owens and Sarah Blanton both of whom were teachmg Englxsh at Mldland Hlgh Then a huge canvas tent was holdmg xts openmg performance The strams of beautlful melody were wafted towards me and lookmg upon the ram ed platform I saw Mr Lloyd Wolfe famous as a plan st He left the platform amld a storm of applause The next number was to my surprlse the one act xaudevxlle play Llfe Wxth Mother presentmg the famous Shlrley All and Sarah Pope s the leadmg characters They had recelved the1r flrst traxmng at M H S Time passed and I heard a XOICS cry out Oh here comes Daddy It was the volce of a llttle glrl standmg by the gate wlth hex mother Donald Myers M D came up at that moment and the three started towald the house talking and laughmg As they neared the door the mother stooped to p1Ck up the ch1ld and I recogmzed her as Hester Gamblll The scene shlfted to the County Court room The ound of an argulng volce drlfted to my ears and I saw a young gentleman Junlor Hert trying to persuade the Judge not to grant a dxvorce to h1s w1fe the former Dorothy Clark He promlsed fa1thfully never to beat her agam and to always gxve her h1s pay checks In the dlstance I could see a rarnblmg old farm house standmg among the tall pmes and ID front of the house stood a large Whlte truck wlth black prmtmg on lt Soon I saw the pr1nt1ng read Burger Pure Wholesome M1lk Dale stood beslde the truck for a moment then turned and waved to hlS w1fe Clara and the twms Clalalene and Dalene Then ln the dls tance I saw a Slgn board whlch bore the words Greater Frog Town I saw on a large store a name wh1ch looked rather fam1l1ar The nam was Rosemary s 5 Sz 10 Cent Store Inc Yes our old classmate Rosemary Woodruff was successful As I became aware of the motxon of the tram I reallzed w1th a start that I had seen all the graduatmg class of 1948 I was conscxous of a mystel 1ous feelmg of awe The speed of the tram had mcreased It became terr1f1c I became aware that the conductor was tappmg my shoulder My destmatlon had been reached C , . . . Junlor Class I-llstory The wrlter of class h1story attempts to wrxte a story of what the class has done and what It 1S dolng Our class IS made up of such extraordlnary students that lt 1S 1mposs1ble to tell you everythlng about them In readmg th1s you w1ll find the hlgh po1nts of our h1gh school l1fe so far Just use your lmaglnatlon to fill ln the rest On the last Frlday of August 1n the year of 1945 Mxdland Hxgh School was blessed w1th thlrty three green Freshmen The Freshmen boys recelved a warm recept1on from the Sen1ors Wlth a thlng called a paddle It dldnt take us long to get 1nto the routme of hlgh school llfe We had our own aCt1V1t16S such as skating partles wemer roasts and hlkes also we Jolned m the 3Ct1V1tl9S of the upper classmen and of the school The followlng year found us enrollmg as Sophomores By then our enrollment had dropped to twenty three Our class was small but we were mlghty The boys started It off rlght by gomg out for basketball Some of the g1rls were ln the Glee Club Three glrls went out for yell leaders As a whole we were well represented 1n all the aCt1V1tleS of our school The b1g socxal event of th1s year was our own class party 1n the gym At lt we had a treasure hunt and we really found the treasure Now we are Jumors Thls has been a very busy year for us We have been workmg hard to ralse money to take care of all our needs The first semester we gave a class play The name of thls play was The K1ss1ng Lmk ' You mlght have seen lt It took plenty of t1me to learn It but It was a pleasure to g1Ve It None of us have recelved contracts from Hol lywood as yet but we mlght We have had two class part1es 1n the homes of two of our members One was a box supper the other a Valentme Party We are makmg plans for our Jumor and Sen1or Receptlon We want th1s to be an outstandmg event IH the l1ves of the Jun1ors and Sen1ors and an event that wxll always be remembered Our plans are to become Sen1ors next year After that we dont know what W1ll happen CLASS MOTTO There are no benches on the road to success CLASS COLORS Maroon and Cream CLASS FLOWER Rose O C ' l y - - sa vw - f . . .
