That does not tell the fact that they advanced through sectionals beating Central City and Marion, and they played in the districts, losing to Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 10 - 0. They also won the hilton Invita- tional Tournament, the first regular - season tournament Midland has participated in. Using ace pitchers Dave Buch- holtz and Steve Dirks and the clutch pitching of first year hurler Tony Guzzo, the Eagles were successful in com- piling an impressive 17 win-2 loss record. All- conference players Steve Dirks, Dave Buchholtz, Tony Guzzo, Joel Byers, Darrell McKinstry, and Rodney Vacek set good examples for the team.
