PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE In effecting the promises of American democracy our objective is to guard, cherish, advance, and make available in the life of coming generations the cultured and growing wisdom, knowledge, and aspirations of the race. Our system of public education has been developed to assist in perpetuating, improving and realizing high ideals. Such ideals envisage democracy as a desirable mode of living. We attempt to direct the students in the cultivation and control of those com- petencies, attitudes, or types of behavior which will make for livinp in hirmony withthe democratic theory of social life. We feel that some accomplishment has been made if we have helped advarce knowled4e and elevate human attitudes. Sincerely, OPQIXT Roy L. CLASS HISTORY Given a cordial welc ome by those who were to guide us into a life we had never before experienced, we began the first long mile of our high school educational voyage four long years ago. It was they who taught us to develop incentiveg not to look for the gold at the foot of the rainbow, but rather to search for the knowledge, truth, and self sacrifice that would make our journey into real life much easier. Although the persistent trials and tribulations of our first year were sometimes dis- couraging, they were not impossible to ove rc ome for they slowed our progress for a short time only. While striving to set examples for others our cla ss developed a spirit of cooperation and confidence in order that we might reach our ultimate goal with the proper attitude. As we entered our second year of high school, the energy exerted by each of us displayed a more serious attitude toward advancement and the ability to get a keener insight into the future. This was also a victorious year for us in other ways. We attain- ed prominence in athletics and won the Basketball Championship in the B Division of the Wiregrass League in which several of our boys played. When we returned the following year as Juniors the fact that our goal was nearer strengthened the ties of frie ndship among our classmates. This year was filled with many exciting moments as well as hard work. We presented the Junior Play by the name of Mama's Baby Boy , and gave the seniors a banquet in the gymnasium. Returning to school the last time for our Senior year, we realized that we were just Beginning not finishing our education. We re al i ze d that some of us have attained complimentary records, but none of us can do greater things than those which are in our hearts to do. As a last gesture of gr atitude to those who have guided us in our high school life we express our sincereappre cia tion and we can only hope that the future will be as happy and inspiring to the ones from whom we depart. We wish them success and may the spirit of friendship and cooperation make Midland City High School greater than ever. Michael Woodham Historian As I laid me down to sleep last night The dream I had filled me with delight If dreams all do come true ----- Then Seniors I'm glad for you In this dream I did behold Each one's future, which I now unfold. Charles Patterson, behind a desk teaching English, and punishing the pest! Betty Woodham, our business girl, hair rolled without a curl! Betty Lou Marshall, nursing in her friendly way, smooth white pillows all day! Billy Register, husband and POP doing right well on a four horse crop! Mary Ida Myers, a house wife true blue, she sweeps under the beds and MOPS some too! Michael Woodham, in the world goes far, singing on radio as a number one star! Daphne Wilson Hawkins, no need to say, shops for groceries every day! J. W. Riley, a coach we behold, showing the boys how to kick for the goal! H Bobbie Whatley, strikes up a pose and models Fifth Avenue exclusive clothes! About Joyce Hartzog I had dreams galore, she was cooking breakfast at half past four! Mary Ola Kennedy, the wife of a preacher, she makes a lovely Sunday School teacher! Wilton Windham, so quiet slow, showing the cars when to come and go! Johnnie Mae Yoemans, in an office does stay, but has months vacation without any pay! V In this vision I clearly saw, Bobby Tate, a student of law! Gelette Payne, no failure to befall, teaching boys to shoot basketballs! Thomas Godwin, so very high does rate, a gentleman and a senator of the state! I, Rebecca Steele, a Home Economics teacher, showing the girls now to make homemaking cheaper! Charles Register, an odd sort of a plight, he flew around the world on a reckless flight! You'l1 admit this dream could be worse and here I would like to repeat Whittier's verse Of all sad words of tongue and pen The saddest are these 'It might have been' !
