Midlakes Reflections Midlakes High School Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District One You have two choices in life: you can dissolve into the mainstreain, or you can be distinct. Two Table of ]L r Contents Three Dedication Midlakes is proud to have on its staff a man who offers so much to the community as well as to the students and faculty of this school district. Born on November 10th in Canandaigua, he was half of a set of twin boys. In 1962 he graduated from Bloomfield Central High School and went on to study business at Mohawk Valley Community Col- lege and the State University of New York at Albany. The Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District saw the potential of this young graduate and immediately hired him, as we now know he became a permanent member of the teaching staff of this district. Currently living in Clifton Springs he is active as a member of the YMCA board, is district Audio-Visual Coordinator, designs the lighting, which his AV club executes, for all of the Midlakes theatrical productions and is part of the highly successful basketball coaching staff. Because of your many creative contrib- utions and because you have unquestionably helped so many people in so many ways, the staff of the Midlakes Reflections and the students of this school proudly dedicate their 1980 yearbook to you, Mr. David Webb. From Rest and sleep, which but thy picture be, Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow; And soonest our best men with thee do go — Rest of their bones and souls’ delivery. Thou’rt slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men. And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell; And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke. Why swell’st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally. And Death shall be no more; thou shalt die. “Death Be Not Proud' John Donne Eighty J. Arnold, S. Arnold. L. Abrecht, M. Amberg, E. Bush A.F.S Student, Teri Rockefeller Summer of 1979: Austria After last summer, Austria is no longer just a country in Europe. It has become beautiful countryside, picturesque towns, many, many wonderful people (and the hospital and doctors are nice, too). The flowers really do spill out of window boxes, and if one just looks helpless, someone who speaks English will come to the rescue of the poor “amerikanerin.” There is snow falling in the Alps in July, and it is always raining in Salzburg. Vienna is the most beautiful city I have ever been in. The Austrian bauers are just as nice as the American farmers. My A.F.S. memories are something I will always cherish. I would just like to thank everyone who made the experience possible. one hundred sixteen Ghana A.F.S. Students Japan Most of the high schools are boarding schools, that consist of seven years of training before college. The cost of college education is met by the government. The student populace is required to wear uniforms by the law. In the Ghanaian class- room, students are allowed extreme independence in their courses. Teach- ers give little or no homework. The movement from room to room is done by the teachers and not the stu- dents. I enjoy going to Midlakes and I like all the kids. The days in Mid- lakes go so fast! It is super. The only regret I have is I am not good at names. I am sorry about the names. When I return to Japan, I will be very busy preparing for tough college entrance exams. I might fail the first year but I will get through college somehow. Someday I will come back to Midlakes during college vacation and visit all my friends. See you then, Toshiya Tokzawa Robert Nyakotey Write to me if you get a chance: Toshiya Tokizawa Natsumi 3-9-24 Funabashi, 273 Japan Youth for Understanding Student Finland Hi! I am Ulla Leppala, Y.F.U. exchange student from Finland. Before leaving for America, I finished my first year at high school, which is for three years. My staying in the U.S.A. and my sen- ior year at Midlakes has been very enjoyable, interesting and it has given me knowledge and experiences of your unique country. I want to thank every- one who made this year so nice for me. Love, Ulla One hundred seventeen French Club President — K. Deem Vice President — C. Garnish Secretary — J. Silver T reasurer — S.
