As is true with any learning experience, first-hand Information seems most effective. In accordance with this belief, the faculty of the Midfield High Science Department strive to promote opportunities such that students may be exposed to a variety of scientifically-oriented learning experiences. Courses are presumably structured such that the student discovers concepts and relationships within and among several areas of scientific study. By acquiring a knowledge of these relationships It is hoped that the student will come to more fully appreciate his environment and his role within It. MR. TIM ISBELL - Received B.S. PaJfigVous BspaM? MRS. LORA SCHWARTZ This year the Foreign Language department enrolled the largest number of Spanish and French students in the history of Midfield High School. Language students learn to speak, read, and write the target language by means of repetition and practices. They use records, tapes, and the teachers as models for exact pronunciation skills. Audio-lingual techniques are given the highest priorities in the classroom for the basic premise 1s that communications are primarily transmitted from person to person and from generation to generation by spoken words and not by written ones. Additionally, this department feels that it Is essential to study the cultures of other countries in order to understand their ways of life and to promote harmony among the various nations. MRS.
