The basic aims of English are to teach the best ways of communication and to enthusiastically furnish an abundance of good literature for present and future self-satisfaction. The high school years are the years to Impress upon students the fact that the skills and interests they learn In English today are skills necessary for success tomorrow in any area of life. The English department seeks to develop the whole student by teaching ways to read critically and to interpret ideas and situations not only in literature but in everyday life. English teachers strive to provide students with opportunities for an elementary understanding of history. Teachers also seek to bring forward the American way of life by studing great writers of the past and present. English should be designed to provide students with challenging opportunities for growth and Improvement in communicative skills and reading habits. MRS. FAYE ROOKS - received B.S. from Samford University; 2nd year to teach at M.H.S.; teaches English 11 and 12: sponsors newspaper. MRS. In the library you will find information that will supplement the textbook and bring It up to date. You will obtain different interpretations of controversial Issues.
