And you'll see the glitter of crashing cymbals. And you'll hear the thunder of rolling drums and the shimmer of trum- pets. Tantara! -Professor Harold Hill he Eagles Marching Band had the honor of performing on the steps of the nation's capitol on Memorial Day, May 30, 1979, as the guests of Con- gressman James Howard. This in- spirational event was the highlight of a three day Spring Tour . The band left South on Monday af- ternoon, May 28, 1979, and arrived at Doswell, Virginia in time to spend the first evening. After a hearty breakfast the next morning, the 100 member band took the 10 minute ride to Kings Do- minion Amusement Park , to par- ticipate in Middletown South Day. The band completed a marching tour of the park which enthused many spectators from the entire nation. Later in the after- noon, the South Jazz Band entertained on the main concourse in front of the one third replica of the Eiffel Tower. Later that evening the band was transported to Washington D.C. The next morning at 9 o'clock was the culmination of the musical tour - a concert on the steps of the capitol building. The band was greeted by James Howard, Tip O'Neil ISpeaker of the Housel and the press photographer for the Congress.
