We could have a winning season any year by playing 'push-overs'. We don't do that we challenge the toughest teams and we hold our own. - Joe Eckart 7-9 record was only an indication of hat a well-rounded team South had during the 1979 season. The boys played tough against the strongest op- position. When South did lose a match, it was usually by one point. Middletown South's Tennis Team was invited to the State Toumament and gave State Champion Franklin Township a tough match before con- ceding. The Eagles number one singles player, Mike Gasser, was invited to play in the Monmouth College Tournament and was not defeated until the final round. Later Mike was selected number one singles player on the All-Shore second team.
